Mertz review on Gators Breakdowb

Not sure what to think of Mertz. Wisconsin fans were glad to see him go but that is expected. I watched 2 of their games - all offensive plays and they were mostly a running team but Mertz threw a bad interception in each of those games. You kind of got the feeling like us they didn't have many playmakers at WR.

Hopefully this year we'll have some of the new guys step up like ETN did last year.
We have a young core but they seem like they have potential.

He just needs to be a 1 year stop gap to get us to DJ Lagway hopefully.
Guys like Johnson, Etienne Pearsall, Mizell, Jean, Wilson, and if we can field a good OL i think he can be serviceable if not good. It's one of those years if we can get a good class and hit 8 wins it would be great. Also i wanna see some of the freshmen and sophomores start to develop that's what I'll be looking for that.

Doubt Billy will start a Frosh QB. Most HCs wont unless its dire situation

That is why we are in a predicament for 2024 now. We may have a playoff capable team then with a good QB but now there is no high school blue chipper in either of Napiers 2 classes.
10-2 in the new SEC will be a lock in the new 12 team playoff while 9-3 will be a 50% or so chance to get in probably. 9-3 in the new SEC won't be easy though.

UGA just won 2 nattys with a walkon QB.
We have 2 4 star QBs on the roster with plenty of eligibility left

If they stay. With the way NIL and the portal operate, I doubt either of them will see the field at UF.

Not too high on those guys though. Hoping Mertz with a change of scenery improves a lot.

I think its crazy ppl giving up on Miller after a bowl game with half a team. Guy hit 59% with a 7.5 avg in his first start vs a ranked defense with zero run game help.

I have nothing against Mertz or Miller. I really hope one of them steps up and has a really good year.
But from what I have seen from Mertz even with a lack of talent at WR at wisky. He still was very bad in passing situations.
Miller unfortunately got thrown to the wolves ( well Beavers) in the bowl game with so many opt outs that there was 0% chance to succeed in that situation.
So we will see in a little less the 5 weeks. I hope for the best.
Last time Florida played a Thursday night game was 92 vs Moo State lost that game 30-6 in early October. So let's hope being it's opening night of the season that the Gators have a positive statement. On a big stage against a very tuff opponent.

IMO, Mertz will be an improvement over Richardson. If he has any ability to read defenses, hit an open receiver, he has to be better. Richardson cost us 3-4 games last year on his own.

That is the problem I don't think he reads a defense real well. He had some really bad reads and throws on 3rd and forth downs at Wisky unfortunately alot of them.
Fortunately for Mertz and Miller Florida does have some weapons and speed at receiver unfortunately The O-line will be a work in progress and Mertz better be able to move around in the pocket or he will not last long as a starter at Florida. He will get hit alot will see how much that will affect him. I honestly think he throws at least one interception maybe 2 in Utah. Will see how costly it will be.
