“To be a national championship contender, you've got to be really strong on the line of scrimmage”. “So there's no question that will be a part of our identity.”

“Our trademark will be our physicality,” Napier said. “We'll be in great condition. We'll be known for how hard we play. We'll be disciplined. And we will eliminate careless play -- turnovers, penalties, mental errors.

Napier when hired.

Watching the presser didn't seem as bad to me as the quotes seemed to be.

He definitely got defensive and handled it pretty poorly, but I thought he took some accountability as well.

Some of the "you didn't ask me this before" type responses were pretty bad.

Nothing he would have said would have been good enough, so I'm not judging him on words. The performance this Saturday will be telling.

Agree. Some fans after a loss will crucify a coach no matter what they say.

Back in 2021, our fans were freaking out because he refused to take any suggestions about fixing anything (i.e. firing fat asses Hev and Grantham) while LSU fans were freaking out because Ed O, when a reporter suggested something to him, said it was a good idea.

Winning solves everything.

I don't mind that the boosters aren't overmeddling in affairs.

I do like that they're pushing for an OC, but I think Armstrong was a decent hire. That said, I think Napier made a poor choice to go with a young coordinator for DC while retaining OC duties. He needs to communicate with the young guys on staff if he's going to have a bunch of up and comers on it. If he wants to hire someone who he can trust to handle business without support, he should have hired a proven commodity. But it's getting tough to find those these days. As the proven coordinators are getting older, they are either becoming HCs (Elko, Freeman, etc) or are retiring (Bud Foster). Even Saban had to settle for Kevin Steele, who isn't bad but is a major retread and imo is on the backend of his career.

I like Armstrong and think he could be a good one, but as last Saturday showed, he is young and will take his lumps too.

Message Board Telephone Game:

Read a post on 247 that quoted what a supposed big booster posted on another board.

quote:

"Listen please. There are changes being implemented. Will all of you like them all? No. Some of you don't like a nice sunny day. So, no.

I am not going to tell you those changes because that is not my job. BUT, I will say this. Some idiots have sent "credible" death threats (not in the fake Swamp Donkey variety) to some of our coaches and their families and that is currently being investigated by FDLE and that is completely disgusting. Sickening. We are better than that. Be mad and be frustrated -- but don't be a freaking fool."

I agree completely, anyone who does this should be prosecuted.

I question whether there were credible death threats. If there were they will be arrested so that will tell us whether it was over the top venting or an actual credible threat to kill someone.

Definitely. If a person really threatened to kill someone in our football program they should be charged for communicating that threat.

KC posted it on On3. KC is usually pretty positive, and this was the first time I remember seeing him this heated. He also doesn't post to On3 much because there are some terrible posters.

I also had my first thread deleted there yesterday. I asked what everyone's personal record for bench press was, then after getting some answers, changed the subject to "What did your biggest hookup weight?" or something to that effect.

The first response was great. "235 and I blew my shoulder out in the process."

Unfortunately the mod's didn't like it and it got deleted.

What's the deal with the pay sites having such terrible posters?

I've never been to On3, but I check 247 once in a while and it honestly might be a bigger shite show than tRant main board.

Is it because they make money off people subscribing so their tolerance threshold for banning shitty posters is higher since they're getting $9.99/month (or whatever it costs) to let people post there?

On3 is pretty bad due to all the specials they run.

I also think some of the more established brands they brought on have huge homers as staff/mods. Warchant/BamaOnline/Miami's site have guys who feed only the positivity. It reminds me of when I used to be on Gator Country. You weren't allowed to be negative or you would get banned.

Gators Online/On3 has staff that is way more on the journalism side with Nick, Zach, Keith and Corey. They are more negative/realistic, so it allows more posters to be negative. I actually enjoy that aspect because we aren't getting lied to about how we are going to be getting every commit or win every game by 2 touchdowns. But it definitely hurts their ability to get "insider" posters because those guys don't want to get shouted down every time something goes wrong.

Those sites either allow some pretty bad stuff or expect you to be a sunshine pumper even when we get things like our last 3 crushing losses. Gator Country is one of the pumper sites that are quick to ban for not towing the sunshine pumper line.

Yeah they are both pretty bad in their own way.

I'm more optimistic as a fan/poster, but I actually find the pumper sites to be worse than the negator ones.

At least the negators can be funny sometimes. The pumpers are just painful to read.

I believe this week will set a course for the future of Gator football. If we come out and play like we have for most of the last 18 games, the future is bleak. If we come out with some changes, there is hope for the future. This is a pivotal game in Napier's career at UF. I think this game is this big. Thoughts?

I think that if we come out flat, like the first 18 games, that the future is bleak.

However, if we come out and handle business, I don't know if it provides much hope for the future. I guess it is relative since compared to a crap performance it would provide more hope. But this is a poor Vandy team and a good performance here won't tell me too much considering we performed well against Tennessee this year at the Swamp (just like 2021 when things fell apart for Mullen, the two games we did well in were vs Tennessee and Vandy at the Swamp).

While I agree this game is important for a good performance, to me, the game that is really important to maybe have some hope for the future is @SCar. They are not a great team but have a great QB and it is on the road, so while it is winnable it is also not a gimme. If we can have an impressive win there, I would feel that Napier might have started to make adjustments and maybe have some hope that he'll turn things around.
