They hired the Maryland OC whose offense ranked 120th in the country and promoted a guy from an off-field position to take over WRs.

It's not great. You never know it could turn out to be pretty good, but if this was a Gator coaching staff most would be pretty disappointed.

If the Gators made those types of hires TJ would be the first here saying we're going into the Dark Ages and what a joke Mullen is.

Fortunately for him, this is an FSU thread so he can come running to protect his daddy.

Walt Bell - His offense was 120th in YPG in the country last year. 96th in YPG in 2016. The year before he got there, they were 87th. He started off bad and has gotten progressively worse. Notice the article only mentions his stats while he was at Arkansas State, because that's the only time he's done something worthwhile. He reminds me of Nuss, except with much less experience at top level programs. At least he's only 33, so there's potential.

David Kelly - a 61 year old WR coach who hasn't coached in 7 years. Maybe he can recruit well. Not sure how you can spin this into a good thing though. They were forced to settle for him because their own alum turned them down to stay at an in-conference rival. He does have experience with Taggart and recruiting in Florida, so at least he can help with recruiting.

(ZlatanDiego is the author of those two quotes from Florida Gators Subreddit).

Let's put it this way, FSU was 99th in sacks given up last season. Not good, right? So they got rid of their OL coach and hired Michigan's OL coach. Michigan was 114th.

No doubt if that was the staff we hired people would be very upset and rightfully so. Of course some would put on a smile and try to put the positive spin on it, but that's not the quality of staff I would want at UF.

Bell is not expected to call plays at FSU, with Taggart handling those duties for the offense.

So he's basically a worthless coach? Got it.

Taggart just got an OC that had a worse offense last year than none other than Doug Nussmeier.

Watch out guys, FSU is back.

Say what you want about Mullen’s staff he targeted coaches that he trusted and know his system, and he closed on them quick. The fact that Taggart whiffed on a ton of coaches and resorted to promoting the guy he planned to have as “GM” to an on-field position speaks volumes. Taggart himself was a very risky and mediocre hire so I don’t know what they expected.

This. Their staff outside of three coaches have big question marks. The experience is rather lacking, especially the P5 experience. Locksley was a huge get. I wanted him badly for us. Oh well. We have sure things.

Knox - proven and good recruiter
Seider - proven recruiter not sure how he does with TE's but his RB work was awesome for only one year

Heve - Already proven at UF. Miss State was sixth in the nation in sacks allowed. He struggles recruiting, but he can coach with the best of them.

Billy G - Odell, Harvin, etc...prove WR coach. See Miss State's class? He had a hand in a major haul of WR's. He will here as well.

Sunseri - Biggest hire by far. Guy has been recruiter of the year and proven in the SEC.

Grantham - His last four years point to a man who has done significantly better. Not the best hire, but we could do far worse...like Shannon

Warren - Coached the position a number of years. Despite injuries Tenn's DB's were one of the lone decent units last year. Don't blame him for a cover two on fourth down. Not his call

Johnson - Proven and decent recruiter

So basically..>Robinson is the only question mark. Compared to six at FSU. Spin it any way you want TJ. We have the better staff.

And it's not even close. It'll be interesting because I'm going to go ahead and prematurely say that Taggart is going to fail miserably at FSU.

Deion fricking Sanders turned down his Alma Mater to be an NFL analyst. If that doesn't send up major red flags, I'm not sure what will. Even all of the ''no's'' from many different assistants, too. All part of the plan, I guess.

Deion did not graduate. No degree no college coaching position. In fact the NCAA made up a rule about going to class because of Deion.

He was never getting a job at FSU. Smokescreen to hide their shitty hires.

Francois is under investigation for domestic violence on his pregnant girlfriend.

Going to see if Jimbo took all of the fixers with him.

That sucks yes.

But our staff is still far better overall.

TE is usually a recruiting position.

So hoping we land a good young recruiter(preferably a black guy).
