The punishment that Straws talked about is still fresh in my memory....Charley Pell had us on a course to win a NC. Its not cooincidence that UF got slammed by the NCAA...which was a set up from the getgo. Things were pretty loose back in the late 1970s to early 1980s...Marcus Dupree ring a bell? Miss St gave him a lot of do ri me and he ended up at Oklahoma. His mom got a new mobile home, he got new car etc etc....he had handlers crooked as the day was long. The kid was a cash cow for relatives and couldnt spell cat if you spotted him two letters.

Anyway, back to UF...SMU was one of worse offenders and actually got the death penalty. UF was made an example of because of Florida being a hot bed for recruits along with Texas. Ole Bobby at free shoes pushed the NCAA along with Jawja to investigate us. Some of "crimes" were ridiculous....like asst coach buying a pack of gum for a recruit to fly to Gainesville because his ears popped while flying. Another involved Steinbreiner loaning the Gator his jet to fly a recruit, but there were other serious crimes also. The Gators payed dearly, they acually won the 1084 NC but everything was stripped from them...NO TV for 2 yrs, reduced schollys, limited visits to see recruits...etc etc We were a power house program in 1985 but no one could watch us on TV. In 1986 the reduced schollys and being unable to recruit well caught up with us....but we still managed a winning season with Kerwin as a senior with bad knees at 6-5. We beat Bobby up in Tallyban in monsoon downpour to secure the season as a winner.

I have to say I'm very upset over the contract extension. He is on a 3 game losing streak has yet to sign even a top 8 class ( probably never will) and get that kind of a raise this is freaking unbelievable.

If I lost 3 customers in 3 weeks I guarantee you I would not have a job. So why give him a contract extension for losing. They should have waited till after this season to look at any extension if he has a good season.

In todays college football world you have to protect your coaches and show stability in the program. If not, someone
will take your coach and players will leave or not come at
all. It's easy enough to get out of a contract, so it's no
big deal if he doesn't get the results, to still fire him. It's only money!

dan mullen has given us the best football experience in the past decade since meyer left. i don't see a reason why we should've waited. he's still "young" and if he can learn from his quirks, he'll be a HoF coach one day. dabo wasn't a championship caliber coach from the get go at clemson. mullen wasn't either. but he learned how to be one and mullen can to if he does it right.

Amen pass the ammo Finch....people soon forget the dark days of Muschamp and McElwain....we have had entertaining offense for the first time in years. Some people complain about everything....but study the roster and who actually played in the secondary to see why our defense faltered. We are now loaded with secondary players and there is bound to be a new player with Elam type frosh talent.

I understand what you guys are saying but come on name me 1 other school in the country that would hire Dan Mullen away from Florida at over 7 Mil A year.

On a 3 game losing streak. The answer is no one I'm not saying fire the guy but to give him a contact extension is completely terrible on UF's part when he deserves an extension then give to him. but right now in my opinion doesn't deserve one.

It's to late now but if we have a 8-4 or 7-5 season and end up in the belk or gator bowl then what will be talked about.

I also do not trust him with a DC hire because it's seems he is afraid to tell Grantham to take a hike. Obviously the defense can not be any worse then they were last year but I do not think they are going to be that much improved either will we see a better defense this year yes but let's face it its not going to take much for them to be better then last year.the defense gave up 428 yards a game you think if they improve to 380 yards a game that the defense will be that much better.

UF has delivered for Mullen. Now Mullen in my opinion must Deliver to UF

Dan could work anywhere in the PAC-12, almost every school from the Big-XII/X. He's not the greatest coach out there, but easily top ten. We had a few Heisman caliber players last year and they were inherited players.

This is a better question two years from now, as we see how he manages the roster.

Straws the only schools in each of those conferences that could pay a coach the kind of money USC & TEXAS were not even looking at mullen.

For the money that UF is paying him now there are no excuses for him not to be in the playoff by next year. if he doesn't have a top 3 class by next season then there is a big issue here he is now getting top 3 money now give us top tier results.

That is all I'm saying!!!

Mullen is not an elite coach. He is solidly 2nd tier which isn’t anything to be ashamed of but he’ll never win a title here and that’s why he didn’t deserve this kind of money.

He's also finished 8th 6th and 13th in his first three years.

Team keeps getting better talent wise for sure whether u can see it or not. D especially if its not a lot better this yr Grantham gone imo. Maybe DJ Durkin comes back idk see what happens. Offense has been better year over year since he got here. Also did what so many wanted beat UGA. After a 21-7 lead and a pick 6 by Trask. 35 unanswered gameover at half

His classes have at least been hitting needs. Filling gaps. Last couldn't balance a roster to save their lives.

Also excited to see Mullen with the first QB he actually recruited in Emory Jones. Jmo everyone should wanna see Mullen with Ant Richardson after Emory. Talk about a perfect fit at QB best since Tebow or at least Dak.

Naysayers buckle up for the ride...I think Emory will be a very capable QB and we have RBs galore, although I think Davis should move to WR. The defense will be much better than last year...most of you dont even look at our roster and see what I see.

Mullen secured the number 2 or 3 rated Cornerback in the country...depending on what service you look at...a highly rated 4 star safety who attended same school as the CB, got 3 DTs on board to give us a healthy rotation..the number one rated JUCO lber etc etc...we are laoded on defense dudes and dudettes.

...Mullen finished at a higher ranking than both of those teams every single season he's been here.

2018:

Florida: #7
USC: Not ranked.
Texas: #9

2019:

Florida: #6
USC: Not ranked.
Texas: #25

2020:

Florida: #13
USC: #21
Texas: #19

Yeah, I expect playoffs, but I also know that even if we recruit well (look at Georgia who still got bitchslapped by Alabama and LSU) we're gonna have a tough time reaching the playoffs. Football is a very different landscape at the moment, and shite, I'm a pretty critical person regarding Mullen but I also can't argue with the fact that he's averaging a top ten finish a year over the last three seasons.

That's pretty good.

This will be his season, though, not next year. This is where we'll see if he can be "elite", reload his team and get them organized.

He has earned his paycheck (for now) and has shown that he can adapt pretty well -- going from Franks to Trask, both players who don't fit his system and having the offense humming like that is extremely promising.

We have secured the future with a very good HC...the money that boosters ponied up in large part....so anyone who complains about his salary and didnt pony 500K should shut the hell up.
