On the defensive line, Tedarrell Slaton and, to a lesser degree, Elijah Conliffe, seemed to get more snaps with the starting unit on the defensive line on Saturday. It seemed that Florida's coaches gave Kyree Campbell and Adam Shuler a bit more of a rest in Saturday's practice, likely comfortable with what they can do already. Slaton really showed up, active against the run and showing a good deal of athleticism inside. He had at least two sacks and broke up a pass.

-- At linebacker, it was actually Lacedrick Brunson who turned the most heads in Saturday's practice. He also batted down a pass on what would have been a sack after he got free up the middle on a blitz early in practice. He also showed great speed to the outside corralling Pierce after it looked like Pierce had the ground to turn the corner on him on a run to the left sideline. One play later, Brunson made a nice read on a Trask keeper up the middle for a stop. Later in practice he had a sack as he came free unblocked up the middle.

Cornerback Brian Edwards had arguably his best practice as a Gator. He jumped in front of one intermediate route thrown by Emory Jones on a nice read, easily picking it off. The very next play he was in the vicinity of a pass intended for Rick Wells on a cross. The pass appeared to bounce off Wells and before anyone could tell what was happening, Edwards had the ball and was racing to the end zone. He also hit Grimes with the aforementioned hard shot on a deep dig to jar the ball loose and force an incompletion.

-- At safety, Shawn Davis was once again back at practice and ran mostly with the second-team unit. Brad Stewart got his shot to play with the ones, doing so more frequently for the second straight practice. Jeawon Taylor still took the first series or two with the starters in both 11-on-11 periods, but Stewart got more snaps overall alongside Donovan Stiner. Stiner continues to struggle a bit breaking down in space. On one play, Kadarius Toney caught a post and Stiner was collapsing on him inside. Toney cut hard, easily bouncing it back outside where Stiner had no chance. Toney pointed a finger and taunted Stiner as he easily ran past into the open field.

5) Center Kingsley Eguakun moved into the second-team unit some today in 11-on-11 work. Backup center Tanner Rowell has struggled through the spring snapping the ball.

Franks needs to calm the fk down and worry about his development.

We need Slaton to be a force in the middle to free up the other guys

I just don't understand why he keeps doing stuff like this. We're all just sort of waiting for him to mature but he always seems to have these very weak mental episodes where he can't control himself.

In his fourth year at Florida and third year as a starter, he still doesn't have the mental capacity to keep himself out of trouble.

I'm glad it's still early, because he has an entire camp to work out those kinks and not pick fights with his own team.

I can respect a little edge, but yeah he needs to tone it down

I love how Steele reacted to being...rolled by Van Jefferson. (That's the nicest way I can put it, but he ended up rolling over on top and had a good rep.) Steele is going to be one physical CB, but I'd hate to line up against VJ.

I like an edge too, but when you play QB you are expected to be the leader of the team.
And not as the youngins put it, “a baby back bitch”.
That’s just how he comes across to me sometimes.
Hope he has the best season of his life though, and grows up in several ways.

Physically he is everything you need, but mentally he seems to be incredibly insecure. The slightest lack of respect sends him over the edge into conflict -- and I think it bothers me because it always seems to be dedicated to the fans/his own teammates or offensive line.

Take that shite out on the other team, talk on the field.

Definitely don't get in a fight with a defensive lineman because he sacked you at practice.

He plays better with an edge. I don’t have a problem with it.

Apparently he trucked Shawn Davis on a quarterback keeper the next play

As the QB you should truck your teammates every time you have the fricking ball. They’re not allowed to hit you full on, because if they do your feeling get hurt and you start a fight with your own damn team.

It’s a lose lose situation to hit the QB. You’re not going at his knees and you’re not hitting him high.

Think about it. Mentally he’s weak.

Yeah, love how that edge is used to spurn his own teammates and fans rather than the other team.

Maybe he should focus some of that anger at Georgia and hold onto the football on the one yard line this year, or just not throw it directly to them.

Maybe this is the year he can get 100 yards of passing against Missouri (he's failed twice), just hope he doesn't cut himself on that edge.

"The defense seemed to take umbrage at the initiation of contact from Franks repeatedly, which puts them at a disadvantage because they're not supposed to hit the quarterbacks."

Real tough guy, love his moxie.

Fair, but he was able to focus it on FSU, Michigan, and South Carolina and performed pretty well with that edge about him. And apparently it’s translated into this spring too, as most have raved about his performance to this point.

Feleipe will never win some over. Take the good with the bad and root for the kid. He could be the one to lead us to a conference title game this year, before he’s drafted in the first round next year.

He threw for less than 200 yards against two of those defenses and did 4 yards better than the average against FSU. They're not exactly great by any means. He didn't really do anything more than "don't turn it over" which is above average for him, I suppose.

Nah, I don't just root for people because they're on my side. He has a lot more to show on the field before he can get pissy over someone bumping him at practice.

That has always been my stipulation: Show it on the field. Stop crying about fans, social media and people sacking you and nut up. I want him to succeed, he will never do that until he manages his silly ego.

Antonneus Clayton has left the program.
Not too surprising, but we will never really know what kind of potential he had.
