mertz is better than i thought he would be.

the defense was a pleasant surprise for the most part.

we played a very sloppy game. we didn't look prepared to play football. this is actually a silver lining, we can easily get better but it'll be up napier and staff.

we might even win 7 games this year. not saying that to be an arse, i would consider it a step in the right direction since it looks like we're stuck with napier anyway. hope he turns it around.

It takes at least 3 days to acclimate to a new altitude. We arrived in Utah Wednesday for a Thursday game. No wonder guys looked sluggish.

Was Utah a better team, absolutely, but I don’t think Florida is as bad as some make them out to be.

I love the optimism but they will have to show much more improvement to even get close to 7 wins!!

Will see what happens with Tenner. That will be the tale of the season. I have stated it is a must win game for Florida to have any hope of getting 7 wins.

I stand by that whole heartedly.

I just have a feeling that Tenner is going to blow the doors off of us at the swamp in a 3/4 empty stadium by the 4th Quarter. Tennessee is better defensively then last year of course with out hooked not as good offensively but still will hurry up and move the ball and Milton will still run the ball well.

This defense as of me writing this does not look capable of slowing down a offense like Tennessee.

They play the game for a reason. I hope I am wrong!!

Utah with a 70 yard bomb averaged 11 ypc
Take that away and it’s around 7
They averaged 3.5 yards per rush and that’s with the long QB run

Defense got off the field on 3rd downs and tackled much better.

Once they settled in they played really well

Offensively we need Kingsley back asap, Slaughter got handled and cost us a td. Our Guards played very well

Evidently that's not what Napier's research told him.

Unfortunately you can't take a 70 yard bomb out.

You can not tell me that Tenner will not take several shots downfield.

I think Tennessee will take a shot in there first possession will it be the first play not sure but in there first series absolutely maybe 2 shots. For sure as slow as we looked on defense they will try to run on the outside to get there speed out and down the side line they will spread us out and make us make plays side line to side line and be fast doing it.

I think we may be in trouble with Mertz as we need a real mobile QB to buy time and freeze defenders for a second with the threat of running to the outside when the O line screws up and Mertz doesn't have speed like that. Unless our run game is really dominant that high % passing behind the chains like in the Utah game won't win SEC games.

Mertz is the least of our issues. Special teams continue to be poor, a carryover from last season. This has to be fixed. They made at least 4 critical errors against Utah. Undisciplined penalties at key moments hurt us badly, another carryover from last season. Defense was better but still gave up big plays, similar to what we saw last year. Play calling was suspect, same as last year. Clock management was poor, just like last year. What the heck was up with the 2 point conversion?
This is my big concern with the coaching staff, we haven't improved on problem areas from last season. It's early, I hope we see improvement beginning Saturday.

Mertz had our longest run I believe and minus sack yardage he was our leading rusher

He can run when it’s there enough to keep defense honest
Willing runner, as someone used to say

This nails exactly how I've been feeling. I had hope that Napier would get some of these issues fixed in the offseason but after 1 game I don't see improvement in very much easily coachable areas. This is what has me very concerned, the easily coachable things should be done right after an entire offseason to work on them.
I will say I don't feel quite the dread I did last year when it comes to our defense, but they'll have to improve too to compete with the top SEC teams, and the damn Noles.

Overall to me it is a lack of attention to detail, lack of focus in some areas like special teams and lack of intensity and sense of urgency. All can be fixed with good coaching.
It is time for some improvement in these areas to take place, now, not at the end of the season.
Go gators!

Looking at another guy breaking down the offense it was crazy how Napier would call 3rd down passing plays where none of the receiver routes make it to the 1st down marker.
