Brad White's Bend And Break Defense

It this something we can salvage? Was it as bad as it looked considering Auburn was bailed out time and time again by the zebras?
I am hopeful this is the case, but what say you?

I’m not going to overreact to the 4Q. Our defense changed greatly and we couldn’t sub on the DL. Our defense played pretty well thru 3Q last night.

I think the staff doesn't trust the secondary to play bump and run. It probably frustrates Sumrall. Dijon is working his way back into game shape off a knee surgery before fall camp started. McClain had that nice interception off the bend don't break defense but had an up and down performance. Hanks is getting a lot of playing time so growing pains but I expect him to improve.
The gameplan did shift towards stopping the run so Thronton had to play in the box a ton. Hence the big plays in the passing game for Brown.
I think we need to evaluate the secondary after the season and bring in transfers who can play bump and run. There are dudes out there.

We have a very good defensive staff. Not that worried.

I was surprised McCloud and them weren't beating those inside O linemen worse than they were on passing downs but maybe some of that was to try to contain that QBs scrambling. I didn't like seeing the secondary getting smoked on some of those plays either especially the ones the QB hadn't had the ball that long.

Yes it can be salvaged
And honestly that’s the best type of defense to face the high powered offenses of this era with all the targeting rules that make it hard to play real hard nose defense

Maybe its just me but im not gonna hit the panic alarm when we all saw the refs did literally all they could to extend drives with BS calls and many missed calls.
Tbh we shouldve had about 10 sacks
Before their last 2 possessions, they only had 239 yards.
Plus the fluke Hail Mary padded things a bit
Ofcourse we need to tighten some things up, but im not ready to fire anyone like some of you

We’ve played one real opponent with an actual P2 caliber roster and even Auburn is in a bit of a rebuild roster wise
The defense has major holes but hasn’t had much experience yet and potentially can get better as they play more

They are, but they do have weapons at receiver and imo Golesh is a very good playcaller.
Im JS its easy to play monday morning QB about defense.
When we pressed and pressured, ppl bitched when Brown ran in untouched. Thats what can happen when you man on a running QB and he finds a crease.
Then we drop and zone and ppl bitch cuz we didnt pressure.
Running QBs can make you very passive as a defense.All in all i feel we played well minus a few lapses, those can be corrected

Yea. Ask any defense that played Tebow or Newton. Great running QBs are very hard to defend.

Remember what Mike Vick used to do to some of the top defenses in the pros.

Yep I very much chalk up the issues to being a bug, not a feature.
Now if we keep winning close ones in the same way or dropping some because the defense does that, my tune will change.
The ref thing really was a big deal on Saturday. I'm very grateful it didn't change the outcome because that would have very much been a sickening loss.
Even outside of that the Baugh bounce interception also changed the tune of that game a bit. We kind of got punched in the mouth there but we responded, which I loved to see.

Me either. Going to bend don't break in that situation made strategic sense even if it was ugly. We were up 3 scores. We had to run out the clock and stop them from scoring quickly. It worked out.
