if he won't be around next year, why would he have made those changes to the defense?

Jimmy Sexton is a master at getting his clients raises. It is going to take extra this year instead of the normal rumors.

Mullen has a lot of positives for the NFL. Great playcaller, great at adjusting his scheme, and a great developer of QBs. His biggest weakness is recruiting, you don't need to recruit in the NFL.

His media relations is not good and he has no NFL experience.

Just hedging. If he does stay there's obviously something that needed to change on defense, normally an HC coaches/runs the program exactly as they would if they were staying until the day they leave.

Whatever it will take to get Grantham out of here so be it.

I think I would have had a lot more concern if he hadn't...behaved so badly in his press conferences this year and called out his DC.

You don't need to be a dick and say: "This guy sucks" but even if it's just a small nod, that goes a long way. Him shitting all over the offense (record breaking offense), talking about how we lost to A&M because of their crowd and to pack the stadium, then not calling out Marco Wilson?

I'm not saying I want him gone, but to some degree I feel like he's showing several signs he won't get it done, or doesn't have the gumption to get it done.

Firing Grantham would have gone a LONG way to get our attention and tell us that he's conscious of what's happening.

I remember where we were with Mcelwain and where we are now, and I don't want to go back to that.

Sometimes though it seems like Mullen is still learning how to be a head coach. I can't help but feel he r rested Pitts vs LSU and focused on Bama prep. The team sure played like it against both LSU and Bama.

I keep reading there's a divide forming between Mullen and the administration. I don't know if it's true or not but it's troubling.

The relationship will eventually sour. Fans wanted Mullen gone when he was the OC. It's a ticking time bomb.

He's been a HC for 12 seasons now. This won't fly.

He is still learning to be a HC at a school like UF. The HC job at UF is a different level of beast than Miss State. Spurrier is on record saying that UF fanbase felt like 10-2 was not good enough.

Some years it isn't.

We play Georgia and LSU every year, and Mullen has been extremely fortunate that the rest of the East and FSU is dogshit.

SCAR lost their HC.

Vandy lost their HC.

Missouri is a shadow of its former self.

Tennessee is a dumpster fire.

Kentucky is okay, but struggles to be ranked.

He's got two games every year, and he split them this year even though LSU was an unmitigated disaster and showed up with their B squad.

This isn't good enough, and so 10 - 2 this year isn't good enough and it's not for wanting too much, it's just a simple fact. He came here to win National Championships (his words) and he ain't gonna win shite if he doesn't take teams seriously in the future.

10-2 with a Playoff loss - ok
10-2 with a NY6 bowl game 30 point asswhippin - no

What doesn't make sense is him losing his mind and chewing Grantham on the sidelines during one of the games and still not being diplomatically honest about the defense during press conferences.

It's contrary to the professionalism required of a coach here. Downplaying the offense and not acknowledging weaknesses with the defense and yet chewing his coordinator out during the middle of a game. He clearly knows there's an issue but isn't addressing it fully.

That's exactly what I mean, too.

"Well, he doesn't want to throw anyone under the bus."

Offense could have done better, they're failing to execute.

It's like he has this weird axe to grind with the media where he just wants to say whatever the opposite of what they think the answer is, but he just makes himself look like a complete fricking moron because he didn't actually fire Grantham.

If he had fired Grantham, okay, yeah, he was just trying to be a nice guy with the media. Not firing him makes it look exactly like what everyone was thinking:

He is in over his head. He doesn't have the nuts to be the HC and win a National Championship here, and he very likely never will.

Sometimes you gotta fire people, and the problem at Florida is that we're not just gonna let you slide on an 8 - 4 record even if three of those losses were top 10 teams.

You're at Florida, you gotta win those, and you can't win those with a defense like we just had.

Before any more dumping on Mullen happens...I will remind you younger folk that in Spurriers first year (1990) in which he inherited a really strong defense...we lost to UT 45-3 and it wasnt close.

UT held the lead 7-3 at halftime and destroyed us. Again in 1990 we got beat by the noles 45-30. In Spurriers second year, again a very good defense and an offense with Shane Matthews, we got beat by Syracuse 38-21 and lost to Neutered Damsel in the Sugar Bowl 39-28, 1992 was a throwaway year, we had Shane and little else after the 1990-91 team left.. in 1993 lost to the noles 33-21, then in 1994, lost to an inferior AU team at home, tied the noles after a big lead 31-3 I believe and then lost to them again in the Sugar Bowl 23-17. In 1995 got bulldozed by Nebraska and their QB Frazier from Bradenton 62-24.

I think a lot of you would have wanted him gone if he hadnt been a Heisman winner in 1966.

Spurrier also won the SEC his second year and hadn't lost the east since 1990 by the time the 1996 Championship season rolled around. He had already done more than any Gators head coach had ever done by the end of year three, unless you really want to die on that 1984 season here.

No one around here has forgotten about Spurrier, and Mullen sure as shite isn't Steve Spurrier.

He's increasingly looking like he did at MSU, and those NCAA penalties worry me. Here's something for you not to forget. MSU couldn't pay Cam Newton's father enough. Leo Lewis also ends up at State after taking money from multiple schools during his recruitment.

It's easy to say it's just boosters if it stays at one school. The violations following him to UF are not good.
