IMO, this class is the only reason to have faith in Napier's future at UF.
I'll add that this gives me pause on overreacting to the current poor performance on the field.

It's not enough to have faith like the recruiting class, but it gives me some reason to consider that we'll see some improvement.

looks like we'll be replacing the 4*/5* DL commits we had with some 3* JUCO guys...

I hope Napier can keep a top 6 class. If not he may need to be fired mid-season 2024.

247/Twitter rumors are swirling that Kade Bell (Kerwin Bell's son) is being looked at for the OC position and that Bell is actively recruiting Jeremiah Smith for Florida.

another DL is about to flip...
I mentioned this on the recruiting board...
We will know by February 2024 if we're looking for a new HC in November.

Yes, and then we will do it all again for 2-3 more years and hire someone else. Some people don’t realize the situation the football program is in. No proven coach is coming to Florida where we fire coaches every 2-3 years without giving a chance for continuity. This is a rinse/repeat situation with our fanbase.

yeah, we just need to get over the fact that we're gonna have at best 8-4 season with mostly 6-6/5-7 seasons on average for the next 6 years like Jimbo had at aTm.

I would rather us give the opportunity to right the ship with suggested changes and see what happens in the next 1-2 years. This would give enough time to get a full roster in. No denying some of the decision and hires made already haven’t panned out, but the program will continue to be in shambles choosing HC turnover over stability.

right the ship
he's got to:
hire an OC
fire one or both/replace OL coaches
hire a ST coach
attack the portal with more urgency than he did in early '23
keep what's left of the '24 class together
if none of those happen, he's signed his own fate as the HC of Florida. he come across as loyal to his coaches, just like Mullen was.
i'd almost say we'd know by the end of December what his fate will be for next year since most of the class signs early. he should have his coaching changes made by then as well. but if history is an indicator, it'll be the end of May, by the time we get a full picture of what our team will look like after that last portal window closes.

I’m not disagreeing that changes on staff and the approach to the portal is needed.

napier has a weekly teleconference every wednesday. today's was split into two. the first half this morning wasn't very long.
jacob rudner, a reporter at Swamp 247, plans to ask him about the state of recruiting. a florida fan predicted napier's response:
quote:
” yeah, no, recruiting, that’s a good question. It’s important to be intentional about recruiting just as we are about everything in this building. I can’t talk about specific recruits you know, so, yeah, we’ll leave it at that”

Don't forget "It's a process, and right now we're in the middle of the process. We have a plan, and we trust the process."

According to Graham Hall:
quote:
Napier asked about recruiting when the results aren't what they desire: "It's a battle...it's part of the job, and I would tell you you win some, you lose some, it's highly competitive. It's good to have some players everybody wants, truth be known. It comes with the territory. I think recruiting challenges your resiliency...We want players who have conviction about being here, who believe in the experience they're going to have at the University of Florida."

These losses hurt, not going to try to use the "playbook" to rationalize it.
It's interesting that those who've flipped were out of state recruits: Mississippi (Waller), Texas (Mack), and Georgia (Nasir).
It sucks especially since those are positions of dire need.
Napier, as bad as he's been on gameday, does seem to know how to operate as a CEO with off-field situations like recruiting and what not, so I think he'll bounce back. Maybe he'll poach some of those A&M DL recruits who we were recruiting earlier in the cycle.
I also think that, while the DL/Edge recruits are desperately needed for the future, he needed to get some guys in the portal for those positions to be competitive next year. It's possible some of these guys could've contributed off the bat next season, but that's a lot to bet on when looking at our schedule and looking at hot how Napier's seat will be.
In truth, and we've all said an infinite amount of times, Napier has to hit the portal harder this off-season. Maybe a few of these losses on the HS recruiting trail could shake him up to realize that he needs to do that, and we'll be able to get some contributors right off the bat from the portal.
And maybe use some of the NIL that was going to go to the defectors to lock down Seaton and some portal OL.

mos def. it's interesting to see how coaches operate. Dabo is very adamant about the portal. i wonder if he'll dig into in the off season.

Hopefully we are tampering the shite out of players right now.
