If we could replay some of those early season losses we would probably be having seeding discussions. Does the NIT use the NET or the RPI?
Posted on 2/19/19 at 11:22 am to ConwayGamecock
My bad Conway. For RPI i was just joking more of a stab at people who have been posting about it when it’s been said that it’s not being used anymore
I had no clue Okie State had a losing record overall.
So that’s out of it.
If you go by Net they are higher than us.(providence and Oklahoma State)
But realsitically no idea how they come up with a lot of this shite.
What I’m more getting at is we had a pretty tough OOC, and I think the way we’ve performed OOC compared to now is showing that outside of 1-3 the SEC is not a deep
Conference. Everyone is pretty similar

I read an article yesterday that called okie state a " bottom feeder" in the big 12. We are 4th in the sec so what does that say about the strength of the SEC?

It’s not what everyone was talking about at the beginning of the year.
And even one of our top teams (LSU) was beat at Home by lowly Arky and got beat by Oklahoma State

Since the NCAA now owns the NIT I would assume they use NET?
Then again I don’t think they use anything?
They have a different selection process.
I do know that if you won your conference regular season but didn’t make the NCAAT you are automatically in the NIT.

I would assume that if we make the NIT we would have to play away games with the Ncaa tourny here.
Posted on 2/19/19 at 11:47 am to SOSFAN
Most likely
Even though they don’t play on the same days.
Don’t really know how that works

We don't really want to lose anymore reg season games but I think finishing 4th may hurt our post season chances due to being, most likely, one and done in the sec tourny.

You’ve said that already
But does finishing 4th overall in the sec not help?

Not really when the last thing the selection committee seeing is you going one and done in your conference tournament.

We won’t go 1 and done though.
As long as we don’t play Kentucky LSU or UT first round

And the top 4 won't play each other...they play the others who have to fight it out between themselves to have the chance to play the top 4, who get byes. It gives a team with a short bench like ourselves a chance to play our first game against another SEC team that had to play the previous day, and may be a bit tired.
If we win that game, which would be the quarterfinals, or the "elite eight" of the SECT, THEN we play against each other in the semifinals, or the "final four" of the SECT.
Last season we were the 11th seed in the SECT. We beat 14th seed Ole Miss by 1 point 85-84 to advance to the next round, which was the next day. We lost that game to 6th-seed Arkansas 69-64. Arkansas got a 1-day bye.
Arkansas then played #3-seed Florida, who had a 2-day bye, the very next day, and beat Florida 80-72. THEN Arkansas had to play its 3rd game in as many days, against #2-seed Tennessee, and lost 84-66. Tennessee would lose to Kentucky in the championship game the next day.
UK was the #2-seed - the #1-seed last season was Auburn, who lost to #9-seed Alabama the same day that Florida was upset by Arkansas.
If the team is deep and with senior leadership, perhaps we could go on a run like that. But we're led by freshmen and only have eight scholarship players. We don't need to be playing 3-4 games in a row. If we could win more than two games in the SECT, then starting in the lower rounds would mean it'd be against lower-rated opponents RPI/NET ranking-wise. I'd rather have a chance to go at the higher-rated opponents, to give ourselves a chance to make the NCAAT....

Mike can we actually touch on that?
I don’t think that stat is correct.
Basketball reference only tracks that since 2009-10

Stop saying that. The only way we’re making the tournament is winning the SECt or making the finals maybe. Having one extra win over Arkansas or someone of that caliber in the SECT won’t change that.

If we finish top 4 the chances are we only get a kentucky, lsu or ut so it would be a one and done .

He needs to lay someone out for the record breaking foul.

I honestly am not thinking ncaa I'm thinking 1 and done in the sec tourny may hurt our chances at the NIT.

But is it?
That site only lists from 2009 on...
We have no idea what the record actually is.
