Once again going to scroosters info that may be due to the lack of talks between our camp and Fuente's. Herman is open about his interest couple that with the rumor about Urban endorsing our job makes him the number one in the eyes of many.

I have no inside info or pay site info just what I gather from y'all and other ppl in the know. So I have to infer it all. That is just my inference of it all to this point. I will not be disappointed with either of the two.

Yea they said the lack of interest from Fuente was partially because he's knows he's not number 1 on our list.

The Memphis insider also said he would be surprised to see Fuente leave for this job

Guys ... I dunno why 247 is reporting that. Not sure we're they are getting it from but I'm sure J.C. and Tony have their sources.

J.C. gets most of his stuff from Kornblut ... so take that fwiw. Korn is a pro but I'm not sure who he is talking to unless it's Chuck or maybe one of the other search committee members - who knows.

Tony used to have a great connection in Dave Roberts. Dave and Tony's Dad go back to the old Wade Hampton days. Clyde still talks to Dave, so maybe Dave has passed that down the line to Tony - I dunno.

If Herman has become a clear number one it's happened since last Tuesday night. It wouldn't surprise me given McNair's involvement and given Bob Beudine's connections in the area .... although they have a tight relationship with Fuente.

I know Herman has been very receptive .... but there are some buyout concerns with him ... he's only in the first year of his contract.

He would get us in that I-45 corridor ... which is where we wanna be recruiting.

The Memphis State so-called "insider" is bat shite nuts if he believes Fuente is staying. The main question about Fuente is, can he win big without the big time QB and while coaching in the SEC ... but he beat a good Ole Miss team and he developed all those players he has right now. Which also brings up the questions about staff assembly ... and in some people's minds Herman holds the edge there. It a question few fans take into account during head coaching searches.

Did Tanner physically meet with Herman on the 27th or 28th? Was it at McNair's place? We may never know for sure because of the protocol issues ... but perhaps 247 has vetted that and confirmed it through their Houston site within the network. They didn't confirm it through anyone on this side of the big ditch.

Fuente is supposed to be very controlled, very closed to everyone but his inner circle. He's well known for that ... not a big talker. More of the reserved quiet type. And he's not willing to talk directly about anything to anyone right now ... unless it is about this team, this season, at Memphis. My Memphis contact says he is a tough guy to figure.

With that said I will say this. One if my closest contacts, a person who is in the Rice Building and Floyd Building every single day ... has been telling me for two weeks now that it was going to be Herman IF Fuente didn't soon become more receptive to our overtures ... and maybe that has finally happened?

We've got six on the list. That'll be narrowed to four shortly ... then two. What I know of Ray is that he is strictly goal oriented when it comes to meeting his cutoff dates in everything he does. He stays on schedule no matter what. And I know that in this case particularly, because it involves recruiting, he is going to be a beast about it ... and he can be impatient even though he likes to refer to himself as a patient guy. So if Fuente is being unreceptive and not appreciative of the attention ... Ray would probably turn his back and walk away. Maybe that's what's happened. I dunno.

I'll get the story at breakfast Wednesday morning I guess. Although, just this second I'm getting a couple of texts that might be to do with all of this so I'll give them a call and revisit this again shortly.

Thanks for sharing scrooster. I have not had a paid membership to a Gamecock site for years, but your posts feel like they are "insider" information. Much appreciated!

Elliott and Mangus are coaching their natural born assess off.

If Elliott has a clear plan for revitalizing this off-season, I'd be happy with him at HC. Guy is a warrior, and the kids love him.

That was such a shitty way to lose that, talk about a punch in the gut.

I'm not one for moral victories, as that was still a loss and it hurt like hell. But it's good to see the players haven't given up.

Shitty way to lose today, but the team played well. Just one very costly mistake.

Once again though we failed to execute, had big let downs and suffered some serious bar play calling when it mattered.

The one that sticks-out is 4th & 4 and we call a delayed dive up the middle.

Another ... 3rd and 6 and we call a play action wheel route toss to a back that took 5 seconds to develop.

I its be the only one in the fan base that doesn't have a problem with the offensive play calling.

That same run call that got stuffed on 4th and 4 converted on 3rd and 3 in the fourth.

And imo the play calling has been much better since Spurrier stepped down

This.

This "coaching staff" is only three people. Mangus, Elliott, and Botkin are the only people who seem to be giving a damn. It's awfully hard to row a boat with three people dipping oars. Is there any doubt that if Elliott were coaching the Mizzou and UK games that USC would have two more wins?

He's doing a fantastic job given what he has.

Yeah, we are really looking better these past two weeks. I'm actually starting to think we have a real shot at pooping on Clemson's season at the end.

Tough loss yesterday, but Elliott has the team playing hard and they haven't given up. He is doing a great job and at this point, I'm not opposed to the idea of him being hired full time on the condition that he could bring in an elite staff. This is obviously his dream job.

Our lack of talent really hurts -- we looked so slow on defense in the first quarter. It was embarrassing.

Yes, we aren't winning, but we aren't getting blown out. The defense played great after their 1st 2 possessions, but we have yet to string together a complete game this season.

Moral victories guys ... we don't wanna go back there.

We're playing with some enthusiasm and effort ... but we're losing.

We need to completely wipe the slate clean of everyone ... take what we have returning next year and call it a new day. Start fresh. New attitudes. Serious attitudes.

Close losses are unacceptable. All they do is accent the negative plays that, had they not been called, could have turned an L into a W.

Well I know I have been dropped from the official coaching search list. I had been screaming all night to throw the ball to Adams over the middle, it really was open all night. They finally did and it didn't work out for us.

So my name has been cut form the list..

*PS I was never on the list, but feel I'm just as qualified as our entire defensive coaching staff combined.

I hate moral victories, as well. The last drive ended terribly, but there were several times earlier in the game when we made a bad call that cost us.

Also, as well as Orth has played for a walk-on, he still misses some throws. Brandon Wilds was WIDE OPEN on a little wheel route on that last drive, or the drive before the last. Could have been a huge play, and Orth just overthrew him. Plays like that have to be made to win big games.

I'm hearing Tom Herman (Houston) has an offer on the table to replace #Spurrier at South Carolina. Ok, scramble.... Now!

Dunno the validity to this. Anyone know?

I heard the same thing...hmmmmmmmm.

This could be a win-win.

Light a hotter fire under Elliott's butt which may, in turn, equate to an even better chance of pulling off not one, but two major upsets. (our luck we'd do this after losing to citadel between upsets)

And seal the deal with Herman for next year.

(if this is valid, and I think it is, a lot of teams are about to shite their pants)

Legit. Not just a rumor.

@Ken_Slats Source? Does it seem legit or just more fuel being added to the coaching search fire?
