If he had enrolled in August, as an academic red shirt, he could have practiced with the team but wouldn't have been able to play. This would have meant that he would have lost a year of eligibility. By waiting until January (assuming his academics are in order), he will be eligible to play immediately and will not lose a year. He signed with the 2019 class and will be counted there. That's my understanding. The positive is that he that he could have been practicing and acclimating to college life this year. The negative is that he would have lost a year of eligibility. I don't see a huge problem.

I would have liked him to start developing, and he would grayshirt so he would still have 4 years. That would have been the preferred option i would think. That way he comes in able to contribute immediately.

He was never going to be a grayshirt. If he comes in and qualifies in January, he will be ready when the season begins.

Yeah I knew he was a 2019 signee. My post was sarcastic, and not really a happy one. I would say that I'm at least glad that we got him into the program somehow, no matter how we did it, but then, we still have to wait and see in January if he makes it in, just like we had to wait till now to find out he's not coming in until January.

But he now takes a spot from the 2020 class, after taking a spot from the 2019 spot. I don't like this style of recruiting.....

I've not seen anything saying he'll count against 2020. Most reports have said he'll still count against 2019.

That is not how red-shirts work. He would have been an academic red-shirt for 2019, and then been a red-shirt freshman for 2020, and have 4 to play 4.

Now coming in for January, he'll still have his 5 to play 4, since there's no red-shirt involved. But the original idea for the academic red-shirt, was because he had some work to do on his academics, right? So now coming in for January, that's no longer the case? He'll work on his academics at home, instead of with tutors at the Dodie?

And if he still has academic work to do, how will that impact his playing eligibility for 2020? He no longer has the fall semester to use to focus on it, because he won't be enrolled then....

Correct. The problem is, I believe, if he doesn't qualify in January, he will have to be an academic red shirt for 2020 and that would count toward 2019 and 2020. We could get into another Tyreek Johnson situation. Hoping that's not the case. This is very confusing so I might be wrong.

After losing to unc and seeing how bad the state of south carolina talent is for next year I don't have any positive expectations for next years class.

We are in third for Burch behind taters and the pups. He will be at the game Saturday, so in other words quit expecting him or adding him to your classes.... however, I do like Grimes a ton more to step into the buck role, and take over for Wonnum after this year. We lead by a wide margin if bama won't take him, which looks very likely.

After watching Burch play, and his total lack of motivation, not getting him won't hurt as bad. He is, imo, vastly overrated.

Come on man. Even if he currently unmotivated he can be a beast and a game changer when he is playing up to his potential.

I've watched numerous 5* not play up to their potential. If you don't have the work ethic and the desire then i dont want you.

I've been disappointed in his play as well honestly. Very underwhelming. He may very well live up to the hype once he is really challenged, but as of right now he has evoked more questions about his drive and work ethic than he has answers about his natural talent and ability.

I still hope we sign him but I will not be as disappointed if we do not.

Same could be said about Xavier Thomas now up at Clemson. He's what, 3rd string and barely hanging on these days? There have been a few others in recent memory that I can think of, including Belk of course.

We've sorta dodged a few bullets .... at least that's the way I see it in some of these cases where Divas go elsewhere and never pan out.

I think you're getting Xaiver Thomas and Xaiver Kelly mixed up.

Yea thats not the case with XT. Hes a fricking beast.

Venables held him out of the first two plays against GT i think to prove a point or send a message, then he put him and XT DESTROYED the line. VERY distruptive.
