Corey Miller tweeted out, and seemingly deleted, that Marcus lattimore will have a role on staff next year and that the 10th staff member is Kyle Krantz as expected. For this to happen, one of three things would have to occur:

1. The ncaa changed their minds about the unfair recruiting bs they brought up the first time.

2. There's a person on staff presently that won't be next year and somehow that story hasn't broken.

3. Equally as unlikely, Marcus is stepping away from his foundation that works with youth footballers that "gave us an unfair recruiting advantage".

EDIT: as soon as I typed this it hit me.

Dan Werner. I remember talking to some bama and om fans about him and they mentioned that due to the situation with his family, om was able to get a waiver to have a non coaching position staff member hit the recruiting trail on his behalf since he needed to spend more time at home. This seems like a much more likely scenario than what I outlined above. Again, conspiracy theory. Anyone else got anything?

Nothing other than that Krantz will be promoted. I heard the Lattimore rumor earlier today, but the guy I heard it from saw it on Facebook. Could have been from the Corey Miller post.

I'm bout gonna lie, I've convinced myself in right. I feel like Jim Carrey in 23 right now. If this is true, muschamp is out here playing chess while these other chumps play checkers.

Lattimore wants to be a coach. Being just a non-coaching recruiter doesn't seem like the best way to develop his coaching abilities, but you never know.

No I just meant that would be one way to get him on staff was to use the waiver.

Here's what I've been able to find out:

By tomorrow it is believed that Marcus will be added as a member of the support staff in a Player Development role. However, none of the "insiders" have been able to, or even attempt to, say why he is now able to be on staff in the same role the NCAA deemed that he couldn't two years ago.

It's official. Also I think I thought About it too hard.

I just read the rules changes for 2018 and one of them addresses the satellite camps. The verbiage of the rule change allows Marcus to continue his camps add long as they're on USC camps and within the window of the allowed period.

Lattimore would be a real asset to the USC coaching staff, even if its just as a GA or helping out in Player Development. Something to get his feet wet and get him started.

if a recruit is on campus, anyone with a football specific job title is allowed to recruit.

What is different this year is that Marcus changed the wording in the bylaws of his foundation to acquiesce to the NCAA's demands.

Recruiting-wise, any staff member is allowed to make contact with a prospect during the prospect's visit ... some are not allowed to visit said prospect on the road or make contact via social media.

The rule where the team spiritual advisor is concerned is vague. If a prospect were to reach-out via text, for example, for spiritual or emotional advice it appears that it is okay for said advisor to respond in a non-football or recruiting related manner.

It's a big gray area that the NCAA has allowed some leeway on and some programs have used it to their advantage ... particularly Michigan, OSU and Bama from what I understand.
