Question For Rooster?

Doubt youll get an answer, rooster doesnt post here anymore. It was a bunch of bullshite, but things happened, and rooster said he was leaving. Happened about 1.5 months ago, maybe more, but he hasnt been back.

The person you are referring to is Sam Gilbert aka Papa Sam.

I’m just going to say I think Wooden’s run is a bit overrated.
Sure what he did was great but it was a different tourney back then with different rules
In this common age of NCAA, nova winning 2 in 3 years is pretty damn impressive

FWIW Scrooter was in my fart thread on the OTL but the thread has vanished now so what position you piss in is an acceptable thread but farting and blaming it on the dog is not. As for the Biggie Smalls vs Tupac debate in college basketball...

East coast dominated college basketball back in the day. Bee is the only long term coach with a better winning percentage than Rupp but who knows who he is today? Nova has always had good basketball just they were stuck in the same conference with Georgetown, Saint John's, Syracuse, and others.

1950's
NCAA comes down hard on CBB in the east coast and shifts control of power to Beyers (a 30 year dictatorship) and Indiana basketball benefits from the demise in the East. Wooden was born in Indiana and played in the B1G for Purdue and coached at Indiana State (where Larry Bird played). He goes to UCLA where he is a good but not great coach (about a decade or so)

1960's
Papa Sam shows up on campus and is a known criminal and suddenly UCLA under Wooden goes from .645 to .940 almost overnight. Everybody knew this including Wooden (tho he always acted like he was unaware) including the NCAA, yet they never press the point. Was there East Coast vs West coast bias? Knowingly, with B1G ties, did Beyers look the other way because it was Wooden and not Rupp? SEC was equally disliked by the east, west, and midwest even back then.

I want to correct myself as I reread his post. It was Dixon ( a fallback guy) and we were supposed to flip steele which we didn't. So we didn't get the oranges he thought but I also thought we would get steele so im wrong. Another poster was wrong about Robinson. Hell we are all wrong at times so if we get ragged about oh well shrug it off and move on.

Its recruiting, the kids dont even know half the time until they do something.
