Harris is a decent person but he shite in his own nest and he knows it.
He got too big for his britches and he pissed off the wrong people that day in The Zone when he told us if we didn’t like some of the things he was doing with our money ... too bad. We could have our money back.
He wanted to turn SC hard left ... waaaaay left. And while some, like my wife and I, were willing to monetarily support certain initiatives of his like the new Gender Studies program for instance, there were other things where a lot of us were drawing the line.
And he talked-down-to and preached to the wrong people about his bullshite
Patricia is a wonderful woman and was a good ambassador for us to a great degree. I enjoyed interacting with her at various Board of Visitors meetings especially... she was always classy and engaging and she listened.
Harris grew into a user. He would smile and interact with the undergrads and faculty all the while seeing the undergrads not as human beings but as future piggy banks from where he could take more money to fulfill his far left agenda.
He was not nearly as concerned with raising academic standards and catering to the needs of the young people in this state as he was/is in worshiping at the alter of the almighty dollar and changing the tradition and culture of this state (a clearly defined and stated goal of his) by luring-in higher paying out of state students willing to mold the university more into the shape of his native Queens.
Don’t get me wrong, he did some good things. He was, at times, a decent caretaker. But he could have done so much more with what we gave him and, in that regard, he dropped the ball all for his personal self-absorbed egocentric reasons.
Few realize that he almost single-handedly destroyed the semiconductor industry in this country .... an act that will have negative repercussions on the security and stability of this country for decades to come, (not counting the issues we are already facing as a result.), and not to mention the loss of jobs we suffered in this country as a direct result of his eco-warrior SJW actions.
Here’s a quote from his wiki page that he no doubt has edited under his direction .... when we know for a fact that the following could not be further from the truth.
He was hired to get us over the hump and obtain our AAU accreditation.... which he failed miserably after having numerous opportunities. But here again, we all laugh at his wiki page where it claims ....
... and the funny part of that is that, if you read the AAU mission statement it reads:
This is all more Pastidies smoke and mirrors. He failed to get us across the goal line. We gave him everything he asked for and more. And, in the end, when some of us started saying that instead of pushing us farther left maybe he should concentrate on achieving the accreditation he promised ..,.. well then he decided he was more popular and so well loved that he could tell donors that didn’t support his socialist ideology to frick off.
Big mistake.
His tenure as President ended at ten years for a reason. But now the problem is that he has stoked so much internal strife and encourages so much discontent as he leaves about who replaces him and whether or not his socialist agenda will be continued .... that we have a real problem on our hands. One in which very few sidewalk alumni are aware of.
So now, as a stopgap, we bring down this guy from Ypsi, this EMU grad (who I have actually met and is a super good guy originally from Detroit who is friends with a friend of mine who I’ve mentioned before ... I’m Godfather to his daughter) so I know some of the inner workings of what is going on through the BoTs at the moment with this guy, but he’s been put in a no win situation and it’s a shame.
Pastides is not bowing out with the charm and class he is being portrayed as having and, his list of accomplishments and accolades are somewhat overblown.
A lot of good people behind the scenes without any help from Harris made those things happen.
Owell, it is what it is but a lot of us will be glad to see him leave. He fell far short of what was expected of him.

JW but what was socialist about him?
Is he like our AD in that he caters to all the sports the same? As opposed to a guy like Clemson or Bama’s AD who puts most his eggs in the Football basket?
I’m a new alum, don’t know much about this shite

Excuse me Mr. Rooster but why would anyone spend money on gender studies? There is a boy gender and a girl gender no need to study anything else.

That’s what I think the major is.
You study about men and you study about women
Seems like a good major to get more athletes eligible

Also the whole out of state thing
Why doesn’t SC put in place a law regarding In state enrollment numbers?

Harris had waaay too much control over the hiring process and he actively sought to place well known SJWs and activists (resume proven to be so) into the faculty and support staff community. It has been rumored that he even black balled and blocked appoints of more neutral and moderate applicants during his tenure.
He also encouraged a certain level of discourse not only among alumni, but also among current students and GAs and some claim he even promoted a secret police of sorts, one which reported directly to his subordinates any faculty or staff .... reported any incidents of moderate or conservative speech that didn’t tow his party line.
He was also becoming more and more brazen with his passive aggressive underhanded anti-moderate conservative remarks.
Harris can be a funny guy. He’s disarming even, and you have to be en guard around Harris, but he can be disarming with his delivery when he tells a joke. And he’s always got a good joke to tell. I have laughed at jokes of his in the Cockaboose, in the suite, at Garnet Society events, at fund raisers over at Capstone and at Koger and at the CLA and in The Zone and in the Alumni Tent .. I have sprayed water and champagne all over the place laughing at his jokes. His timing is just impeccable and as stated earlier his delivery is remarkable.
But then lately his jokes started to take on a more ominous tone .... poking fun at the other half, the moderates and conservatives, et al .... and his jokes were not funny anymore and he knew it when there would be moans and grunts rather than laughs. But he decided he was just too popular and loved to be bothered with that and he stayed on his soapbox.
Harris did do some good things in the first five years. He worked hard and he worked for all of us, everyone. But in the end he blew it so, as stated earlier, there are a lot of us who are happy to see him going. Now we must hope he didn’t sour the pool to the point where we’re going to have another display of temper tantrum fit throwing like the one we just witnessed here recently. Because the guy they tried to ruin, that Army Officer West Point guy they shite all over ..,, I have three very close friends who know him well, served with him and under him and worked for him and they all agreed we just lost our chance at one of the true great men we could have ever hoped for to steer this university down a path towards a big time future. He was sabotaged by Pastides’ people ... so Harris cannot get out of here fast enough in all honesty.

Okay didn’t know that.
But he did raise a lot of money for the school. I just really care about that part when it comes to our school because the academic standing is where it already is
We definitely do see eye to eye on the political spectrum
Also when you do say “his native Queens” the guys from Astoria
It’s a predominantly white Greek area and they’re all MAGA
Very similar to Staten Island and Long Island.
Except for those two they’re mostly MAGA Italians.
So what you say is he was trying to bring more Greeks to UofSC.
Their food is amazing

Yea I’ve posted before about Ny.
I think your view on it is a little misunderstood because where Harris grew up has really nothing to do with his views.
He most likely never ventured outside of Astoria to other parts of queens because it seems like he has money
And then he went to the University of Albany and Yale.
That’s about as white as you can get

I feel kinda spoiled living up here.
Any food blows everything I’ve ever had down south
And people love saying NY pizza, and it is hands down the best but one that doesn’t get enough talk are the bagels
lox and creme cheese from Russ & Daughters, frick me up

Yeah, I dunno. I’ve spent a lot of time up in Queens ... enough that I am a huge Mets fan since the Gil Hodges days. When I was young and poor my old roommate at Carolina lived up there, although he was actually a Long Island, West Islep boy .... but I would go up there and stay with his family (his mom ran the ticket office at Shea) and when they moved back to the island when his dad was promoted at Otis I would stay at the Best Western right there off of the Harris Harding or Harding Harris expressway.
I loved Queens .... but there are plenty of lefties in Queens. It’s not exactly as conservative, or even as moderate, as you’re portraying it to be honestly IBG. I mean even Trump has admitted he grew up a Democrat in Queens. But I do agree it’s not Brooklyn.
U of Albany is pretty damn left wing. White, yeah, but left wing. As is Yale.
Perhaps the Queens reference was not the best analogy I could have used though.

Well the chef and owner of Ariana's is from Greece. Only knows a couple of words in English but the man can throw down cooking.

I mean i guess i just don’t pay enough attention to it or I’m not looking for it.
Because it doesn’t seem that way to me, especially in the very big Italian American and Irish American neighborhoods of Queens and Brooklyn
But also as I’ve said i vote R but politics isn’t a big part of my life so it doesn’t bother me.
As I’ve said before i expected this place to be full of left wing loons flying rainbow flags, with occupy Wall Street signs while dodging bullets left and right
In my now going on 5 years I haven’t seen that at all.
Of course I live in Tribeca and frequent areas like Midtown Park Avenue, the Upper east and West Side as well as Brooklyn Heights (my trading mentor has a brownstone there) and Hoboken so you probably won’t find that there anyway.
But yea I’ve never been ran up to questioned who I voted for and spit on and I’ve generally enjoyed all my time here and cannot wait to start my family here.

I also tend to think most colleges are liberal.
You won’t find the liberal agenda being pushed in business schools
Especially since a school like Yale sends tons of them to work for Hedge funds, IBs etc but all the other majors (even at our school) tend to lean that way.
Even before pastides my older cousin who graduated in 02( think it was Sorensen?) said the school was fairly left as well
