Looks like the coaches are trying to get him to reconsider. Something is not right with Belk. Either he really doesn't want to play or maybe forces outside of football are pressuring him. I selfishly hope he stays but he needs to do what is best for him. Just because someone has the potential to excel at something doesn't mean they are happy doing it.

Guess this confirms we’re not paying players enough

mentally weak. I've always said im not getting excited about him until he produces on the field. Glad I didnt. Next man up.

Kind of annoying since Sorrells and Green have grades issues and cant play next year. Kinlaw and Sandidge will have to hold it down

Will Mitchell, Belk’s coach at Lewisville High School, said Wednesday afternoon that he had not heard that Belk was leaving the team but that Belk recently had an MRI on his back. Later in the day, Mitchell said via text that “the back issue turned out to be pretty serious.”

CBS sports shared a direct convo with Belk with him saying he fractured a vertebrate in his back and he decided to take a different path in life rather than risk permanent injury.

Josh announced it himself via Twitter. A LOT of speculation there is waaaaaay more to this than an injury.

Didn't see that one coming.

How does this effect our scholarship #'s?

Not overly shocked. The fact he came in so overweight knowing there was a good shot he would be cleared to play and should get lots of playing time. After he was cleared to join, it still took him a while to get his weight under control to pass the physical.

Outside of the 85 total, it will not affect the numbers.

Quote from The State:

Belk struggled with a passion for continuing to play the sport since arriving on campus, a source told The State. WACH Fox sportscaster Mike Uva, citing a source, reported that Belk was having a hard time getting along with the team and that factored into his decision to leave.

Wish him the best but I have to say this has been one of the most bizarre and winding roads from recruiting/signing/transfering/quitting I've ever seen from beginning to what now is apparently the end.

Sounds like an issue at both stops.
No wonder he left.

Hope he does well in the future but maybe CFB isn't for him.

I feel like an idiot because despite his sketch, I was still excited to see all this talent on the defensive line. I felt we stole a player and instead, just got someone our coaching staff wasted time on and took someone else's spot.

Did he leave school? Listen, I'm not saying this is the right thing to do, and I don't know much about Belk's history, but if someone was giving me a full scholarship and I could get a degree without dropping cash and I was half-assing football--seems like a pretty good deal to me. I would ride it out until they kicked my off the team.
