Amen to that.

Love how we capitalized on their errors tonight. Solid win.

Very solid win. Now we need to win game 2: Monte Lee doesn't really have a 3rd pitcher for the series picked out - he wanted to win Game #1 badly, and then throw everything including the kitchen sink at Game #2, and whoever he doesn't use by then would be the starter for Game #3.
Now that they are in a hole, you have to think they will still send everything they got to the mound if necessary. Clarke Schmidt not only pitched a hell of a game, but his 8 innings allowed us to rest our entire BP and turn it into a 2-game series for them.
After the game, Monte Lee talked about missed opportunities for them at the plate, and he's right: they had a lot of lead-off hitters make base early on, and never could push them across the plate. But while Clemson had 6 left on base for the game, the Gamecocks left 10 men stranded, so it could have been a much worse loss for them than it was.
Let's keep it going later today (Saturday)!

Big day tomorrow with Game 2 and a pair of basketball games

Embarrassed in Game 2, currently losing Game 3.
It's simply unacceptable to keep losing to them. Holbrook's leash has to be getting shorter.

I doubt it....Ray is gonna say it's hard to beat Clemson and you lose some series to them and for us to ride it out.

Really shitty hitting the past 2 days. Carolina falls 4-1 & loses the series for the 2nd year in a row.

The problem is twofold.
Ray will be very reluctant to pull the trigger.
Secondly, with whom would we replace him now that Lee is in bed with the taterheads?

Radakovich outfoxed Tanner last season. He pushed Leggett out and snagged the guy who essentially was on deck for this job.
I've heard some folks say that Lee would leave for the Carolina job, but that seems like wishful thinking, and somewhat unlikely.
Ray being a year too late may have repercussions for years to come.

This series loss was disappointing, especially after starting Friday like we did. clemson has recruited well over the years, not as 'highly ranked' as us, but well enough to beat us.
So this is one series we lost, and I'm hopeful that the team can battle on and make it to at least Super Regionals, as that's still the add/drop line, IMO, for Holbrook's tenure here.

The #Gamecocks are ranked No. 17 in the nation in this week’s @d1baseball Top 25 d1baseball.com/rankings/d1bas…

Clarke Schmidt named SEC Pitcher of the week. 3-0 with a 0.43 ERA. A man among boys.

Good bounce back game, cruised to a 7-1 win over Wofford

It was a good and needed win for the team. Wofford was a 10 W team coming into that game and had already beaten kentucky.
Adam Hill needs to move into the weekend rotation. Tyler Johnson was lights out last night. The pitchers had a total of 17 strikeouts and our guys only struckout once.

So ... is Clemson that good?

Doubt it, roster full of new blood pressing a bit too much in the rivalry, coupled with Holbrooks ineptitude was a trainwreck in motion.

I think that they're a top 25 baseball team and the talent disparity isn't that huge between both squads.
Friday they looked like the same team they've been the past few years but Saturday/Sunday when they're playing good D behind their pitchers it makes them a lot better. That true freshman lefty hitter they have name escapes me, really impressed me this weekend. He's just like McIlwain, transferred in early should be a HS SR right now.

I think you'll see him start Sunday, it's the only logical reason why he only pitched 3 innings last night. I'm excited to see what he can do on the weekends, he's just flat out dominated midweek competition.
