I watched Tucker's highlights as well. 3* seems about right to me. He's a good athlete, but he's not all the big and not all that fast, probably about a 4.7 guy. I would think LB as well. He does have really great hands though so I see why we are looking at him for TE. He caught a lot of terrible passes from his QB, even the ones over the middle when he had to leave his feet and he got hit.

Liked what I saw on the tape. Truth is his position will probably be largely effected by next years recruiting class. If we can bag some 4*LBs then TE it is.

Defensive tackle Aaron Thompson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Dillard) verbally committed to Maryland, as first-reported by 247Sports.com, per Dillard coach Lorenzo Davis.

He's 6-3 230 ... that's sweet ILB size in the SEC. Did you watch the second half of that video ... it was all at LB. First half was at TE. Watch him at LB and he looks quick off the ball, gets pressure in the backfield, stuffs the run ... I dunno, I see LB written all over him, I really do.
I agree though, he's not big enough or fast enough to be a TE probably. Maybe a slot type FB/TE combo or something I guess.

South Carolina defensive line coach Lance Thompson spent much of Wednesday visiting with four-star defensive tackle Karamo Dioubate, who is set to take an official visit to Columbia this Sunday through Tuesday. Most of the recent Crystal Ball predictions have been for Dioubate to stay home and attend Temple. I believe the Gamecocks have a chance to land Dioubate based on the feedback I have received, but I will not have a great feel for just how likely it is until he takes his official visit since he has never been to campus before.
quote:
South Carolina also made the decision to back off Kennesaw (Ga.) Mount Paran Christian School three-star defensive end Allen Cater, who was scheduled to take an official visit to Columbia this weekend. Time will tell if it is the right move, but I was told the decision was based on mainly the coaches not feeling like he has the mentality they look for in defensive players.
quote:
South Carolina offensive coordinator Kurt Roper visited with Charleston (S.C.) Ashley Ridge three-star quarterback and Western Kentucky commitment Steven Duncan again on Thursday, but still no offer has been extended. South Carolina also did not offer Spring Hill (Tenn.) three-star quarterback Tylin Oden, who de-committed from Louisville last night.
quote:
Newberry (S.C.) athlete and Georgia Southern commitment Yafari Werts has been added to the visitors list for this weekend. He said the Gamecocks like him as a slot receiver and a return man, He also plans to visit North Carolina next weekend.
quote:
Another player to keep an eye on as a possible late visitor to South Carolina is Stone Mountain (Ga.) three-star defensive end and Indiana commitment Dennis Wonnum. I am told the 6-foot-4, 225 pounder is a player the Gamecock staff likes on film, and he could end up making a trip to Columbia.
quote:
South Carolina tried to make a run at Woodbridge (Va.) three-star defensive lineman and North Carolina commitment Kyree Campbell, but the word is he is firm with the Tar Heels and not planning any other visits.

South Carolina hosted a surprise visitor this weekend as quarterback Steven Duncan (Summerville/Ashley Ridge) made the trip to Columbia. Duncan does not have an offer at this point from the Gamecocks but the coaching staff has been in close contact with him in recent weeks.
Duncan was originally supposed to visit Western Kentucky, the school he’s currently committed to, this weekend but all official visits to the school were canceled this weekend due to the weather.

South Carolina has landed a commitment from former Alabama running back Tyren Jones, according to multiple sources and a report from 247Sports National Recruiting Insider Ryan Bartow.
Jones is from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College and is considered an instant impact player for the Gamecocks as early as next year.
He was recruited to USC by running backs coach Bobby Bentley.

Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson three-star defensive end Dennis Wonnum has committed to South Carolina. The 6-foot-4, 225 pounder took an official visit to Columbia this weekend and committed while on campus. He was formerly committed to Indiana and also had offers from Nebraska, Memphis and others.
Wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon was Wonnum's recruiter of record.

Landing Jones was huge. Our SEC ready RB talent just got a major shot in the arm.

The jump in the very short time Champ has been a Gamecock is nothing short of crazy amazing.

Nothing by chance on a certain CB? I posted about his girlfriend in the basketball recruiting thread after she committed to Dawn and I've been hoping to hear or see his name mentioned every since ... but if nothing by Tuesday I'm spilling the beans on him. Sam da Man.

Huge pickup, he's avg'd about 6.8 ypc in HS, bama and JUCO. Really good speed and agility.
