Pretty much. We'll need to get to about 217 points on the 247 Composite to end up with a Top 25 class. Right now we are #29 and 202 points.

IF we get any recruit like Sam Bruce or Nate Craig Myers, then it will be real easy to get a Top 25 class from there. Otherwise, we're going to have to hold on to our top guys and pick up some high 3*s.

I'm not sure about the visits lists for the next two weekends or anything, but I went to a breakfast this morning and all the guys at the table seemed to think there are a ton of high 3s and 4s and a couple of 5s visiting over the course of the next two weekends ... that our coaches like our chances for - plus one or two surprises come signing day.

I got in on a pool Sunday that has 25 squares, (5x5), at $50 a square and I got two squares. They are using the 247 composite and it does not pay-out until Monday, the 15th of Feb. On that day, at 7:00 PM, we will take the composite off of 247, take the overlay off the grid, and declare the winners.

So the squares have #s 40-16 in the boxes, randomly numbered. No one knows the box numbers yet but they were under the overlay. Put your initials in any two boxes and they are yours, for $50 each. Or one box, or whatever. Some of the guys pooled their money to buy one box. One of our guys bought five boxes, etc.

Whoever gets the exact ranking of the class as of the 15th wins the jackpot of $500.00. Then, everyone from the winning-number-up to #16 divides the remaining $750.00.

So, conceivably, whoever gets #16 could win the whole kitty, jackpot and all. #17 would win the jackpot plus split the kitty with #16. #18 would win the jackpot plus split the kitty with #17 and #18 and so on and so forth.

So let's say we finish with the 23rd ranked class on the 15th, once all the dust has settled and the late signees are counted. Whoever got #23 would take $500.00 then the $750 would be split eight ways for a $93.75 take home.

So given all of that information ... where do y'all think we'll finish on the composite, where does the jackpot lay, at what number on the 15th?

Understand that even one number below the final ranking on the 15th and you are completely out of the money. So if we finish 23rd ... then 24-40 is zero payout.

Where will we finish?

When I bet $100.00 ... in my head I was thinking #22 or above and I break even, but I figured #22 might take the jackpot plus the kitty split.

Each square is a share. If both of my shares are on, or above, the winning number then I get two shares of the kitty minimum. If I have, say #22, then I get the jackpot plus two shares of the kitty.

Does all of that make sense?

It's pretty neat. But I wanna know what number I should be hoping for. I figure as long as my two shares are above #20 I make money. But again, it's so darn iffy because if a share finishes below our # then it gets zero money.

Where will we finish guys and gals?

ETA: I know where there is a group of guys, some of them in my breakfast crowd, who are playing a 5x5 board at $100 per square and supposedly there is a group in the upstate, taterheads, playing a 3x3 board at $1000.00 a square. The guy running that board lives in Spartanburg.

I think 23rd to 27th are the safest bets.

4* DT Stephon Taylor is OV'ing to SC on Jan 29th.

We're in his final 5 with tex, lsu, fsu and oklahoma. TRob is his recruiter, Lance was recruiting him to auburn.

So 27-up is what you are saying? So you think we'll finish 27th? And anything above that gets to share the kitty.

I think we'll finish somewhere b/w 23rd and 27th on the Composite. We're either going to be right inside the Top 25 or just outside of it.

To get us at or inside of the Top20, we'll need to pick up several high 4 stars like Bruce, Craig Myers, Jayvaughn Myers, You need about 230 pts to break into the Top20 for the Composite.

I was gonna say with the large class somewhere between 20-24 28th some surprises. Wuthout surprises 23-28. So most likely 22-27 is my guess as well.

Y'all try to narrow it down to one number. Play it like an o/u where only the over wins ... anything under doesn't.

The mean, the average, is the split between 40-16 ... it's not arbitrary. So the mean average is 28.

I will not know my two numbers until they sell all the spaces but I'm thinking 23 is going to be the winning number. I think we'll be 23rd on the 15th. 23 & up wins money I think ... but 20 and up is a sure thing for a share winner, just not the jackpot. No way we finish higher than 20th, right?

I hope we get Tyren Jones. That would be a coup. He would probably start day 1.

Right now I don't know of another school that is going after him. However, he was a Top5 RB, Top 75 player overall coming out of HS. He had a RS yr and a RS Fr year at bama before getting kicked off the team and going JUCO 1 season. He avg'd 6.8 ypc in HS, bama and JUCO and we don't have anyone with his size, strength vision and stats on our roster. We are all still waiting for David WIlliams to develop into the player he can be, but Tyren has already showed he's there. Tyren would come in and start day 1, I agree.

Looking at that list I see a ton of 3* guys who have what it takes to be All-SEC.

Not huge names but huge work ethics are what got USC to it's peak in recent years, (big names followed) and looks like Boom's philosophy of getting blue collar guys with good talent is really coming through with this class.

Based on what he said today ... I think he is preparing us for a lower rated class, but a class he can coach-up along with his staff.

He didn't sound at all like he gave a fat rat's butt about class rankings. He was almost defensive about that.

3* DE Jacoby Hill:

quote:

South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp and assistant head coach/defensive line coach Lance Thompson stopped by Carver High in Atlanta on Tuesday to check on Jacoby Hill, one of the more intriguing under-the-radar pass rushers in the 2016 class. According to Hill, the Gamecocks are in good shape and he described his meeting with Muschamp and Thompson as "good".

"They've always been at the top ever since they offered," Hill said. "They are close to the top for sure."

3* QB Tyler Odin:

quote:

Kurt Roper went by to check on him at Spring Hill High in Columbia, Tenn., today. The issue is he has Iowa State and Rutgers scheduled for the next two weekends so they are looking at mid-week options.

FYI- I know Oden is under the impression that the Gamecocks will offer if he visits, but that remains to be seen from what I hear.

We just offered another JUCO RB, 3* Justin Crawford

He will OV this weekend.

I watched his HUDL reels. He can play, but Tyren Jones is significantly better and so is Dowdle (even with Dowdle just being in HS.)
https://www.hudl.com/athlete/2169878/justin-crawford

He doesn't have the break away speed that Dowdle or Jones has. He says he rund 4.47, and if that's true, then Dowdle is a 4.3 and Jones is a 4.4

He stops too much close to his blockers. It's ok to wait for the holes to develop, but he gets right behind them and good SEC DL are going to either push through to grab him or reach around and grab him. He has reactionary cuts, and he's making the defenders make the 1st move and trying to dodge it, he doesn't lead/juke them too much in the reels. They showed that he can catch the ball in the flats, but didn't show any mid range or deep route timing/catches. They also didn't show any pass blocking. He may have made a lot more plays this season than were on his reel. However, I would still rather get Tyren Jones and I'm really happy with Dowdle.

I didn't know much about Odin, but from his bio, he is 6'5" with some speed.

Should we land Jones, I have to imagine with his age and experience he'd be the go-ahead behind Williams.

Chances Dowdle or Freeman get a RS this year? We'll have a lot of mobility at QB too. Starting to wonder how Roper would handle the running talent.
