To be fair, let's look at this:
quote:

4th & 2 at ALA 48
(9:09 - 1st) Sam Johnson punt for 36 yds, fair catch by Kearis Jackson at the Geo 16
Good punt.

quote:

4th & 7 at ALA 27
(4:33 - 1st) Sam Johnson punt for 30 yds, punt out-of-bounds at the Geo 43
Bad Punt.

quote:

4th & 5 at UGA 47
(0:02 - 1st) Sam Johnson punt for 33 yds, fair catch by Kearis Jackson at the Geo 14
Good Punt

quote:

4th & 12 at UGA 41
(8:31 - 3rd) Sam Johnson punt for 32 yds, fair catch by Kearis Jackson at the Geo 9
Good Punt

I think it was where we were when we punt. Thats why you saw his average was low. Sam did good job punting last night.

Kickoff: IT was not good at all. We didn't pin them correctly and it was on Special team unit.

Go to Australia and find someone who can punt. Every single one of them seem to dominate.

i want to remind everyone what Saban said about our punters:

quote:

-- Alabama went with true freshman Sam Johnson at punter and Saban was pleased with the three attempts for 39.0 average. “The ball was placed where we needed it to be placed so that we can cover. He got the ball off quickly, so all the things you don’t look at, he did well as a punter ... I would rather have a 38 to 40-yard punt that we can cover, than a 50-yard punt that we can’t cover because there’s no hang-time and it’s a line drive,” Saban said.

Johnson did OK on those punts inside the 20. He got only one past the 10 yard line (to the 9). A good punt return guy is going to put his heels on the 10 and take no more than 1 step back. But our coverage was good. If he pushes those out a little bit and gets inside the 10, we likely down them and pin them deeper. But I’m not sure he could kick it any farther. I guess maybe that’s splitting hairs but I just think the guy is abysmal.

Bad Punt.

That was really the only time we needed a specifically good punt though. If I recall correctly, Georgia's possession at the 43 led to their first TD.

I guarantee we can find a punter somewhere on the campus, 1 day tryout for the soccer kids lol.

I'll pitch for a plane ticket to bring one of those Australian rugby kickers in.
