Younger crowd could careless, the NFL has bit the hand that feeds it. Younger generation digs soccer and axe throwing, most don't even have cable accept for internet to stream.

Seems like an overgeneralized, hyperbolic exaggeration of current circumstances that flies in the face of my own experience with college aged and young professionals. But sure.

Baseball, is actually whiter and wealthier han ever with all the travel ball and expense. The diversity seems to come from latin America these days....

Whiter and wealthier than when? And the wealth involved is all relative to where you happen to live and experience the game being played; to the point of the Latin American influx into the game over the past 30-40 years, you don’t need a lot of money to play it and play it well. Lot of insane talent from otherwise poor countries and backgrounds, nevermind that most public parks in America provide a baseball Diamond and leagues for kids to play. It’s a very accessible game, that some families choose to drop thousands into travel ball doesn’t make the game itself any more or less wealthy overall.

That's all true but for kids that want to play college or pro ball, it's probably harder to get there if you don't play travel ball. My son plays rec ball where I live and there's no way he'll make the high school team when he's that age. Even if he was talented enough and had a great try out, there are so many kids that are known commodities that they wouldn't take a chance on him.

No travel ball Means your kid has to be really good and even then every travel ball club has a kid or two that is really good on a version of scholarship for competitive advantage.

HS baseball programs are now more complex and political than football. It's not even close.

Latin American kids are put on baseball as an occupation, it's all they do.

I would argue that that depends on the high school but that's just me.

Maybe so, but football weeds talent out better than baseball.

Around here, parents spend a mint on baseball and not much at all on football accept qb coaching.

Not in metro Atlanta. People pay big bucks to have their kid work with a "trainer" all the time. Most of the time it's a waste of money.

How does football weed out talent more?

Baseball is a game of statistics that bare out over a period of time. Most kids can field a ball or make a throw. Most can find a way to get on base. Pitching can't be hidden though.

Football has become about stats, but at the lower levels. It's obvious which kids have it and which don't. Plus you sub a whole lot more in football.

Really, the travel ball version for football is spent on 7x7 leagues and travel. Which is worth it for a young qb and his wrs. But it's still not 8-10 years of expensive travel baseball, which has become more like hockey leagues/tournaments than the little league we played.

5 points has taken off over the last 10 years. Lot of really nice indoor/outdoor eating and drinking spots. When we visit, I actually now prefer 5 points to downtown as lunch/dinner goes. Off the top of my head, they have El Barrio, The Pine, Marker 7, Sakura, Fully Loaded Pizza, Royal Peasant, LRG Provisions, Cali N Tito’s, Grindhouse, and Dinner Party (formerly Donna Changs)

You are correct sir. I’ve lived a block from five points for 24 years. It gets better and better. It has an outdoor courtyard feel and on weekends there’s tons of students and families hanging out. Also LRG is now Butcher and Vine, and you forgot to mention the ExPat (classic french) Christophers, Barberitos, Cafe on Lumpkin, 706 (sports grille) ,Condor Chocolate, and my personal favorite Independent Bakery. Five points is off the chain right now.

I love Foley's charm and location, but I’m biased since I can walk there in five minutes. Interest in UGA baseball waxes and wanes with the team's success and the weather. I doubt building an off campus palace would change that.

If nothing else, there are simply fewer opportunities in football. There really aren't minor leagues, for example. There are also more schools that have baseball than football - for a variety of reasons.

We were talking high school baseball and football though.

Right. There also time commitments a lot of parents can't make. There are more than a couple rec ball kids in my son's league that are good enough to play travel ball.

I get it, wish they would do away with travel ball and send them all back to little league and Babe Ruth/Legion ball.

Just another status symbol for many.

Yes. More high schools have baseball than football. For some, it is a budget issue. Others have admins concerned with "safety." So there will be more baseball players than football.

Plus, high school baseball players can go directly to the pros - minor leagues, sure, but they can go. High school football players can't.

I agree with those statements. Maybe you could weigh in on how baseball at the high school level is more complex and political than football. And how it weeds out talent more.

The nature of the game weeds football out. Each play all 22 positions on the field every single play....

Baseball is 1 on 1, with 8 support players on defense. There are positions in the outfield they may only be an active part of play 2-3 times a game. With a great pitcher, none of the other 8(other than the catcher) may have to do much at all. On top of that, kid that's been playing ss since he was 6, can handle 95% of plays to him, so the better kid that can handle 99% of plays on defense rarely is of value unless there is a massive difference hitting the ball on o. This is why money ball works, they can identify where a team needs help and by how much, and make an improvement for little or no additional cost by looking at stats of lessor known/marketed players.
