quote:

Like most NBA teams, Musselman’s teams will try to spread the floor, take high-value shots, and not turn it over. Although not a “fast-break” offense, expect a moderately-fast pace with plenty of movement in the half-court. This scheme is fun to watch, and it is absolutely devastating when its shooters get hot.

If Muss can turn Gabe into something productive he deserves a bump in pay.

I'm anxious about his transfer development strategy here. I love the idea as long as we don't ignore instate talent at the HS level.
I like the idea of always having a "mature" team.
Lord knows we didn't last year.

Got this from a guy over on Tardville but actually thought it was worth a share:

I like knowing what negatives to expect out of a coach. None of them are perfect, even Coach K.

Because of this, I decided to find some threads of games Nevada lost, especially losses to SDSU (which have been prevalent, it should be noted). Upon doing this, I found it difficult to really find consistent gripes (which is good), as most losses seem to result from very poor shooting nights. Despite this, I have narrowed Nevada's fans gripes down to three "consistent" points:

1. Too much "hero ball." Muss' offense relies on a creating space for driving, which when it works creates assists and open shots. However, in their losses the fans complained of players playing too much one on one, not as a team.

2. Lack of physicality. SDSU, USU, and UF were simply more physical than the Wolf Pack. This disrupted the players and got them out of their comfort zone often. SDSU was *extremely* good at this.

And finally, the big one. The one that is consistently mentioned in every thread on Muss and Nevada:

3. Overcommitment to a rotation of only 6 or 7 despite having a deeper bench. This is definitely a sore point with Wolf Pack fans and they feel that Muss' wore his team down by the end of the year, attributing it to some frustrating losses, including Florida.

Now, I post this not to tell anyone to be down on Musselman. Quite the opposite. I'm very excited for his tenure here and I think he'll do well at a school that he can attract higher levels of talent consistently. I just think it's important to know what we're getting in a coach, positives and negatives.
