Actual Coaching Search Thread

We don't have one and will be disappointed to learn that Chris Beard is not interested. Gregg Marshall wouldn't be the worst hire we've ever made, but he's also not going to light the world on fire.

I wasn't joking about Billy Donovan. He would have to be considered a target.

As far as actual coaching news, Biddy on 247 yesterday actually had some interesting stuff (if you believe him).

Beard

Said he has it confirmed by 2 people that Beard is actually willing to listen. Also said he wants to be at a place where he can long term win and has a higher basketball ceiling (don't know how much higher the ceiling is than the final 4).

But he also said that the whole thing could be one giant leverage pull for a giant payday either Tech, Arkansas, wherever.

Marshall

Wanted a 7 year deal and UA feelers wouldn't agree to that. May still be in play, but who knows. Said he heard the offer was 5 yrs $25 million.

Musselman

Supposedly balked at UAs offer.

Apparently the coach in waiting thing was a last minute addition by Houston. Apparently Sampson really didn't want to leave and start over at that age. He left good situation before and burned him.

I will shite a fricking Fiat if we hire fricking Richard fricking Pitino or Fran McCaffrey after all this bullshite holding out for Beard and it all falls through.

HY is playing a very zero sum game here. If he shoots for beard and he misses, then the Musselman and Marshall types have all the leverage and can just say "frick you, pay me."

Maybe so Jack.. But you have to try to get the best coach that you can for the job. And right now Beard is the hottest name in the bidness....If we have to pay more for a guy like Mussellman bc we aimed for the best then so be it.

I would be more dissapointed in an AD who didn't even try to go after the best.

Arkansas is a sleeping giant. There is a LOT of talent here in the state. So much so that all he would need to do is bring in a few out of state guys to be a consistent top 25 program every year.

Just think of the local talent Anderson wasted and the ones he missed on. Guys like Portis, Monk, Macon, Gafford. Etc...

I could see Beard thinking look what I could do at UALR, imagine what I could do with that kind of instate talent at Arkansas.
