How does our administration keep such a tight lid on FB hires?

When Petrino and Bielema got hired there was literally no mention of either one until they were hired. Obviously could attribute that to Long but even with this search there don't seem to be any credible leaks (meaning confirmed interviews, offers, etc not just throwing out names of interest). Maybe it's because a lot of the same people are in place from Long's tenure? Or maybe because our media people have no decent connections? Personally I'm glad so shite like what happened at TN doesn't happen here.

I prefer it as compared to the alternative as you mentioned.

Bilema was out of nowhere. There was some Petrino talk, but no one gave it any credence until just before it happened.

Apparently Long moved silently and swiftly so non eof this crap could get out. Remember the story about the Petrino hire, it was actually offered to Kiffin first, but Long had also called Petrino and told both of them I need an answer in 24 hours or we're moving on... Kiffin couldn't get out of his Raiders deal in time and That's why Preston so abruptly left the Falcons. It was that fast and that quiet.

Long essentially had his guys in min dthey vetted them before any offers were sent out. Once he had his one or 2 guys in mind as final candidates he offered and told them don't mess around or it's hoping away. That way, he avoided all the media hoopla and leaks.

I never have any sauces, but I heard about Petrino a few days before he was hired. Lady I work with was related to the Dallas booster who recently passed away. I didn't believe it. Then he was our coach.

I guess my point would be that what happened in TN could very well happen here because for various reasons you (a) have to trust those in power to make the hiring decision, and (b) recognize for various reasons as well that it is going to be hush hush until a decision is actually made. If it were otherwise then probably no coach would ever be hired.

It wouldn’t be advisable or feasible to seek some kind of public approval of a hire or release trial balloons before a decision is made. With our hires it just happens to be there was no public outcry like there was in the TN but there certainly could have been had the authorities picked the “wrong guy.”

Leaks come from ADs that are connecting to GOBN. Long didn’t hang out with those guys, and neither does the interim AD
