They’ll be an average second-tier SEC team in most major sports.

They may not even remain a softball school much longer.

Ok, I'm not sure what constitutes "most major sports" but OU has the four playoff appearances in football. They have been to the Final Four in basketball more recently than all but Auburn and South Carolina. They just made the CWS final. They are the best team in Women's softball, and have had a history of really good Women's basketball.
If you want to go beyond those sports OU and Texas had more national titles in NCAA sports than the entire SEC combined this school year.
OU and Texas had several runners up finishes including two sports where they beat each other for the championship.
Looks like to me that OU and Texas are in pretty good shape to come to the SEC in athletics right now.
I suppose the difference is that they feel that the SEC will enhance their branding and the Ranters on here feel it won't help them and they will fall to the middle of the pack.
But talk is cheap. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

I agree. It’s easy to poke fun at them but honestly these two are a natural fit. Their commitment to athletics is on par with other conference members. Specifically OU. They are dedicated to athletics from a financial and fan support standpoint right there with the big 6 in the Sec. Texas has the money but isn’t all in. They could go all in if they wanted to but they value academics more.

I’m still waiting on a sooner response from my statement. They claim more titles. Sure. How many in the modern era? How many since Bush SR was in office?
OU has been consistently good but not great for decades now. They get real close but never finish and win it all. Heismans conference titles and NY6 wins are all there. Lacking national titles though.
LSU is up and down but when they are up, they do it right and win it all.

OU is the best modern day program that has yet to win it all. Trying to make it sound better when it really still pains me to think about it.

Whats true is had LSU make the BB finals there would be 100 threads bragging about it.

Good for you, coming from a weak conference, making the finals is easy.
However, how many NC came from all that?

Tied 6-6, however the SEC won two of the Big 3

SEC had several runner-ups as well

How many SEC teams in the Big 3 sports has OU or UTexas beaten to win a NC?
