My 6 year old son wants a Nintendo Switch. I started researching and realized it’s basically the same console that came out in 2017. Should I just go ahead and spend $350 on a 5 year old system? I hate to do that then they release a new one next year.

Other option would be a X Box S.

Any suggestions?

Get the Switch but hold on to see if there is a special for Black Friday with games.

I’m getting a switch for 6 year olds. Only thing I liked on Xbox so far was Roblox

He wants the Switch..so you know what you have to do.

That being said the Xbox with Gamepass is fantastic value. The time frame of the release of a new Switch is really uncertain. The just did a slight upgrade to the current model. In any case the current model should have support with new games for several more years and he will have a good back catalog to keep him busy for a while.

I mean if you want to get him the latest and greatest technology, for a 6 year old, get the Xbox.

If it's about games, both have solid catalogs that just cater to different needs.

If you're worried about the life of the Switch. It will be supported for at least 4 more years minimum, even if they release another console.

I would say Switch, but this stick drift is making me hate ours.

Get a switch and don't look back. It will be a few years before he can appreciate the hardcore games on Xbox/PS.

I have an 8, 6 and 4 year old and we have tons of fun together on the Switch. So many co-op games that that age group can play. The ability to roll mobile is great as well.

Lego games, Luigi's mansion, Trine series, Super Mario Bros U., Mario Kart etc. All great games to play as a family with young kids.

I got the black friday bundle last year, and i'd recommend that this year as well over the OLED version. He won't care about the screen, and there is no improvement in battery life so it's not worth it in my opinion.

Switch, but in no way shape or form would I let them have free access to it. Stays hooked to the TV unless a parent specifically allows them to use it hand held.

Seriously though don’t get one of these crazy consoles for a 6YO. Get him both the NES and SNES Classic
