Off Topic - why is Oklahoma always referred to as OU instead of UO? Do they call themselves OU?

I don’t know why it became that way but it was the case for all non-state Big 8 teams. Oklahoma - OU, Missouri - MU, Nebraska - NU, Colorado - CU, Kansas - KU

All of them are “University of…”

Since nobody answered this question I will.

Yes, Oklahoma calls itself "OU". Just like Kansas calls itself "KU" and Colorado calls itself "CU" and Nebraska called itself "NU" for decades before they started going with "UNL". The old Big 6/7/8 conference apparently mandated this nomenclature somewhere along the way. I think around World War II era.
