He fired Kliff Kingsbury and then the Arizona Cardinals hired Kingsbury as head coach a month later or so
Now he fires the current HC with a 5-3 record and the OU game this week, followed by a bye week
Wow. Who is this loser?

Winning isn’t allowed in Texas.

I’m pretty surprised that he is undefeated in the NFL right now. I thought the hire was really weird at first

Its like MTSU firing their coach for not winning enough its stupid, compounded by Kliff doing very well in the nfl.

Matt Wells will be doing well as the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s the obvious path from Lubbock.

He's a QB developer and a brilliant X's and O's offensive mind.
But he's not a recruiter. Especially when you have to convince kids to go to fricking Lubbock.
Some guys' skillsets are just better for the NFL.

The one reason I'm not sure Kendall Briles would jump at an opportunity to be a head coach in Texas is that he'd have to work at Texas Tech.

Or Southern Miss canning Jeff Bower. That program is still reeling 14 years later.

I have seen a lot of D-U-M dumb coaching fires... that one is the worst. At least you could say with Petrino that hiring your booty call to a state job is a big no no.
Bower resigned/got forced out the door when he was just 54. He probably had another decade of high level coaching in him.

he had a winning record there 14 years in a row, including the year and years after he lost his baby girl in a car wreck

Recruiting to Texas Tech is pretty difficult, so Kingsbury had the X's and O's but lacked the Jimmys and Joes.
It's not as much of a problem in the NFL, but the "air raid" must be adjusted to account for the red zone. The back of the end zone acts as a natural defensive barrier, so an air raid attack will be too limited to be effective.

Not to mention Hocutt lost Chris Beard to an in-state, same-conference team, who didn’t even offer more money. That guy was literally the greatest asset tech’s athletic department had ever had and they still couldn’t keep him with a lifetime extension. That’s fireable in its own right

Firing Matt Wells is a pretty questionable move, and I would have a hard time justifying it, but re: Chris Beard, let's be honest. Was there ever really a need to get into a bidding war with Belmont?
Tech is way too poor to money whip at least half of all FBS programs, and Beard being offered the same money for a job in Austin vs. Lubbock? That's a no-brainer, even if Belmont is controlled by a bunch of boosters with 1,000,000 times more money than brains.
The Matt Wells decision is questionable, but I understand the Beard situation.

It's like a certain SEC team firing a successful coach who was coming off his second consecutive ten win season...

so it's plainly obvious this Hocutt douchebag was afraid of Wells beating OU this week, and he wanted him gone before Wells had a chance to do it
this is corporate level HR BS fakes now running AD depts, Jeff Long types, Tennessee, now this, who else...

Unless you met his wife….she will take years off Bower’s life.
