One thing about 2016 was how many points they actually generated. Unreal number of non offensive TDs that season

The 2011 Alabama D only faced 9 power 5 teams all year (regular season and post season).
I counted 10. (Counting LSU twice since they played them twice)
Both had great defenses and I am curious to see how we stack up against Bama and LSU's defenses, too.
I do tend to agree with another Alabama poster, though, when he said that today we are living in a more wide open offensive environment than we did then. That's what makes it hard to pick a "best" anything. (offense, defense, passing attack, running attack, etc.)

This is the correct answer
What he said he said.

Correct, and a non-P5 scored the most all season
"shite through a tin horn"

The 2011 Alabama D gave up 7 ppg. Lets revisit the 2021 UGA d in January
and averaged 35 ppg. after 7 games the Dawgs offense with their defense is averaging 38 ppg. So far the only difference is Georgia won their one low scoring game. I like where this is going.

9 teams. 10 games.
UGA will face 9 P5 teams @ tennessee.
Add the SECCG and 2 playoff games and we will finish with potentially 13 different P5 opponents. 44% more.

Well your low scoring game was against a (thus far) 3 loss team, not the eventual NC runner up lol
That being said, Bama's 2016 defense bests 2011 defense in a lot of categories when you consider the caliber of offenses they played, and don't just look at the raw stats (total defense, ppg, etc...)
If UGA can keep up their current production for another 8 games, they could potentially match or even surpass what 2016's defense did. So far they're on par in most advanced stats. When you factor in taht 2016 Bama's numbers include a SEC CG, playoff game, and the championship game...it's going to be pretty tough to pull it off

A lot of people don’t understand that to statistically be the best of all time you have to be a little lucky with the competition you face
And lso be lucky with injuries. Alabama losing Eddie Jackson in 2016 was a major impact on the back end.

Gotcha. I suspected that is how you counted.

That boggles the mind....and in my mind is the correct way to look at things. Offenses have changed a lot even since 2016.

This is true. In fairness we have already lost Tykee Smith (S, Star) on defense, Jalen Kimber (CB) and Rian Davis (LB).
Offensively?
George Pickens(WR), JT Daniels(QB), Kendal Milton(RB),
Dominick Blylock(WR), Tate Ratledge (G).
Looks like we might get Arian Smith, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint(WR), Jamaree Salyer (OT) and Christopher Smith (S) back this week.
It's been a mess with injuries this year....but we all go through it.
