Anyone think he will be fired after this year? I do, but my buddy at work who went to MSU says no.

No, he won't. And MSU will limp along for another year after that until he is bought out and resigns.

Meanwhile SEC fans will say what a good job he did after having one winning season in 6 years. I agree it's tough to win at State, but I hope no one begrudges us the desire to be better than what we're getting out of Croom. Seriously, all we want is to be consistently in the 5-7/7-5 range with an occasional 9 win season. That is not too much to ask.

I think it depends on how they finish out the season. If they go 0-8 or 1-7 in the SEC then there is a chance he may be canned. Other than that I think he will definitely be back.

Wow...I remember when we thought like that too...

"Yes! We're going to Shreveport to play Notre Dame!"

Sly is a great man, and I think he is a fantastic coach. But he is hampered, and unless he's bringing in supreme JC talent that couldn't go anywhere else, it doesn't appear very good talent is willing to head to MSU to be shaped and molded. No doubt, Sly has made some questionable coaching calls, but for the most part he has been sound...just no horses to run in the race.

The majority of Miss. St. fans probably realize Croom's success at recruting will take time to show up on the field.

Something many of our clueless RANTards still can't figure out.

Ok, free lesson for our clueless ones.

Miss. St. has averaged 2.53 star recruiting classes since 2004. Considering Croom has a a chance to bring in a 3.00+ recruiting class in 009, it will take how many years for that class to become 5 year seniors? A. 1 year B. 2 years C.3 years D.4 years E. 5 years,

Only lsu225 is allowed to use his fingers for calculations!

As long as Croom can continue to beat 2.5 stars, he should be given full support at Miss. St.

Starting over at this time with a new no-name coach would be clueless.

How many RANTards think Miles would have been able to attract Pelini and Crowton if LSU's recrutiting program was comparable to Miss. State's?

Miles would never have left Oklahoma St. in the first place.

He hasn't really had any more success at recruiting than previous MSU coaches, Jackie Sherrill's crooked regime excepted.

State almost never signs any out-of-state blue-chips and they only sign a few of the in-staters every year.

Similar to Ole Miss, except that Ole Miss gets a few more from out-of-state, especially given its proximity to Memphis.

It is hard for either Mississippi school to get traction as long as they both are mediocre on the field and are not committed financially and otherwise to being big-time programs, as well as being in a divided state with the smallest population in the Southeast.

State thought that hiring the first African-American coach in the SEC might allow them to break out of that cycle, but it hasn't worked.

Ole Miss has a better chance to break out than MSU does, in part because it has more money (if it had an Administration that was willing to spend it on athletics) and at least some, admittedly now distant, tradition....but it does not currently have the kind of leadership needed to make a move.....

He needs at least one "Crooming" of a decent football team a year to keep his job.

I think his job is safe for at least one more year if he can beat Bama for a 3rd straight year...but Saban might be run out of town!

Question for all LSU fans that happen to read this post:

Would you call for changes if your HC continually used an offensive scheme that finished no better than 103 out of the 117-119 Div 1A programs for 5 consecutive seasons? And please, be honest here.

That's not fair to ask us. We advocate getting rid of a head coach if they make a call we don't agree with.

Honestly though, it depends on how bad the program was when they got there, how tough competition is in recruiting in-state talent, and if there had been any NCAA probations. I think all of these would need to be considered in Croom's case.

This is Coach Croom's team at this point. He has to own the results of his offensive game plan and playcalling. I'm not advocating firing Coach Croom, but his game plan is not working. Losing to Auburn and Ga Tech is not unexpected, but how we lost those games is inexcusable. We left at least 17 points on the field against Ga Tech. Believe me, I was there.
