That means 56 of 62 (90%) opposing possessions end without the offense even having a true scoring opportunity or threat.
Opponents average 12 possessions per game. That means, on average, teams only have 1 to 2 possessions per game with a real chance to get on the scoreboard.
That is a absurdly good.

The Athletic published an article yesterday about the Georgia defense. LINK

Kirby Smart and Dan Lanning have built a monster, a defense that’s getting stops on 93 percent of its drives this season.
What is stop rate? It’s the percentage of a defense’s drives that end in punts, turnovers or a turnover on downs. It’s a simple measure of success that assesses whether you’re achieving the goal every defense in college football has on every drive: getting a stop and getting off the field.
quote:
The Bulldogs are allowing a mere 0.26 points per drive so far, more than three times better than any other school. They’ve only been pushed into the red zone five times. The results in those situations: three field goals, one missed field goal, one fourth-down stop.
quote:
Georgia has the nation’s No. 1 pass defense, and that unit never lets up. They’ve taken big leads into halftime of their last four games (35-0, 26-6, 38-0, 24-0) and have allowed a total of 170 passing yards in the second half of those games. That’s wild. Opponents have dropped back to pass on them 150 times, according to PFF. More of those plays have ended in sacks (18) than completions of 10+ yards (16).
quote:
While it is true that Georgia has allowed 23 points this season, seven of those points were the result of a pick six by backup QB Carson Beck in the fourth quarter against UAB. The Bulldogs’ defense has only given up 16. To put that in historical perspective: Over the last 40 years, only one other team has given up fewer than 20 points through five games. And that team – 1993 Florida State – won a national title.

It’s crazy. I never thought I would see a defense better than the 2017 unit, but watching some highlights of games from that year the other day, this unit is so much faster and more dominant at the LOS.

Only thing i worry about compared to 2017 is all the recievers caught everything thrown at them. I am still seeing bad drops on this team, clean that up on O and extend drives and score more and the d looks even better.

just wait until Blaylock, KJ, Smith, MRJ all come back healthy. And Lord willing GP. I am not worried about the WRs

In 2017 we had several excellent players and one dominant player. (Roquan Smith) This year we probably have 3-4 dominant players and the rest of them are excellent.
The dominant Alabama defenses flew to the ball and delivered devastating tackles with 2-3 players in on the tackles. They were not tentative at all. This year they 9The Alabama defense)SEEM a tad more tentative and we are sure of our roles and delivering the big hits with 2-3 players involved.

Not gonna lie, we shouldn’t have those types of stats against our scout team, much less D1/P5 opponents. That is sick

Despite the difference in the number on the jersey, is anyone else ever surprised not to see Roquans face when 17 takes off his helmet? He may as well be the exact same player.

He's got that delayed blitz timed out perfectly just like Roquan did. That play has been devastating this season.
Also like Roquan, he's the best middle linebacker in the country.
