Rzrbackguy, I've warmed to your guy Kevin Kelley coaching Presbyterian College

He put himself out on a limb there.
he's paying his dues and he's got a smile on his face. I like it.
they got their butts handed to them by Campbell College, but Campbell has scholarship players and this is the year Presbyterian went down to no-scholarship ball
Interesting move and I like the fact that he's starting at the bottom of the college game to see what he can accomplish
He's also coming around to finding exceptions to the no punting and always kicking onside thing. He had a good interview with Dan Patrick a few weeks ago and talked about it.
He's got the Hefley kid from Bryant playing QB for him
I'll bet Kelley does one more year at non-scholarship Presbyterian College and then gets a job at somewhere like Murray State, SEMO, scholarship teams.
It would be fun to see a FBS low tier like New Mexico State take a chance on him. What would they have to lose?

If he can fine tune this approach, he could do amazing things.
There's a happy medium between always playing the numbers and being too traditionally conservative in approach.

You can't onside kick it against teams with higher level coaching. You'll get murdered.

You should always play the number. However the number change based on the situation. If you score 90% of drives and have a crap defense you should almost never punt. If you score on 10% of drives and have the 85 bears defense you should punt every time.

This. Everyone thought the single wing offense was a useless relic till we rolled out the wildcat with DMac. He will have to tweak it but I think it could end up being the new big thing.

Yeah, I didn't word that well.
To your point, the happy medium is playing the numbers while factoring in all variables of the situation.

I'm with you Harry Rex.
Not much left for him to accomplish in HS football and he's enjoying chance to refine his approach on the next level. He's totally outclassed by Campbell, but I suspect by next year he'll have PC able to compete even when that outmanned.
Yeah...he'll get into the numbers and refine his rules for punts and offside kicks. The real challenge will be to see if he can install/tweak the offense that PA ran at this level.
This offense was built around creating and exploiting weaknesses and he didn't often go up against defensive coordinators that could study film for weeks and prepare. It'll be fun to watch.
Coach Kelley may come across as cocky or even arrogant sometimes, but he's a very high character guy who instilled the type of loyalty in his kids that we're seeing Pittman build up on the hill.

Hell, Bill Belichik likes the guy and Kelley has his number - he should do one more year at Presbyterian and then go do an assistant to the assistant special teams or offensive QC gig with the Pats for only one year and see what next job that takes him to
He's openly been willing to literally take contracts where he only gets paid on games he wins, at the D1 level. You lose, you don't get paid. That's what the doctor ordered for financially strapped New Mexico State, Akron, La Monroe, UTEP, Bowling Green, etc
And agree to no buyout?
Do it on a temporary basis until you prove yourself, then if you get a better AAC or CUSA job you've arrived and you play the normal game at that point. The interesting thing would be the climb.
