I saw someone here post it, and a buddy of mine posited it to me the other day, that ESPN might start moving more and more big SEC games to the noon time slot to compete directly with FOX’s weekly noon Big Ten game.

In a way, it makes sense, as ESPN wants to dominate viewership throughout the day, and streaming makes it less likely that people will switch from the FOX streaming app to the ESPN app on their Roku/Fire stick/etc, as opposed to the old cable days when you could switch between FOX and ESPN as easily as ESPN and ESPN2. It’s all about keeping people on your app throughout the day.

That said, it does suck for the fans, especially if you are going to the game. The noon atmosphere is so subdued compared to a 3:30 or 7 o’clock atmosphere.

Two big differences, though, SEC has always been a night league and Big 10 has always been a day/noon league. There's a reason for that. Daytime games in the South are blazing hot for a third of the season and night games are freezing arse cold in the Midwest for half the season.

It's also why most Big 10 stadiums have dogshit lights and most of the sec stadiums have decent to really good lighting.

ESPN yet again fricking up a good thing.
