The fact that neither Archie, nor Peyton, nor Eli won the Heisman means the Heisman is shite.

Regarding Archie, this is pretty laughable. And yeah, I watched him play. But his ability to scramble glosses over the fact that his passing numbers were, well, pretty shitty by Heisman standards

1969: 154/265, 1762 yards, 58.1%, 9 TDs, 9 INTs
1970: 121/233, 1481 yards, 51.9%, 14 TDs, 14 INTs

By the way...his sophomore season? 8 TDs, 17...that's right, 17...INTs

31 TDs for his career and 40 picks. Never in his career did he have more TDs than picks.

Sure, he could run the ball.

1969: 124 carries, 502 yards, 4.0 YPC, 14 TDs
1970: 80 carries, 113 yards, 1.4 YPC, 6 TDs

Btw...Archie missed a couple of games in 1970 with a broken arm, which hampered him when he returned to the lineup.

So if you're trying to make a case for Archie to win the Heisman, only 1969 could even be remotely considered a Heisman worthy performance.

Steve Owens won the Heisman in 1969.

357 carries, 1523 yards in 10 games, 4.3 YPC, 23 TDs.

Manning was a QB, so you have to factor in his passing numbers, which were pretty blah. He wasn't even remotely the best passer in the SEC. That would have been John Reaves (Fla), probably followed by Scott Hunter (Ala).

Reaves was 222/396, 2896 yards, 56.1%, 24 TDs, 19 INTs.
Hunter was 157/266, 2188 yards, 59.0% 9 TDs, 8 INTs.

Peyton deserved it.
Archie wasn’t even the best QB in the SEC when he played. Pat Sullivan and John Reaves were both better.
