Pitt vs UT should be interesting. Heupel and Narduzzi have coached against each other twice in the last few years when Heupel was at UCF. They went 1-1 in that time frame with UCF blowing them out in 1 game and Pitt winning by 1 pt on a game winning drive in the other.

That being said - I've got Pitt in a close one. I like their RS SR QB and the defense under Narduzzi despite the 5 NFL departures from last years squad. I wouldn't be shocked to see this game go either way, but as of right now I think Pitt deserves to be a small favorite.

Interesting tidbit...UMASS scored a total of 12 points in their 4 games combined last year (an average of 3 points per game). So, they scored more than 2x their average from last year against Pitt in the opener.

Pitt's defense completely shut down UMASS...but who hasn't lately.

Points per game and FBS scoring offense ranking:
2019 - 19.8 - 118th out of 130
2020 - 3.0 - 128th out of 128

Pitt's offense rang up UMASS...but then again...

Opponent points per game and fbs scoring def ranking:
2019 - 52.7 - 130th out of 130
2020 - 40.2 - 123rd out of 128

Now let's look at Bowling Green to compare

Points per game and scoring offense ranking:
2019 - 16.0 - 128th out of 130
2020 - 11.4 - 127th out of 128

Opponents points per game and fbs def scoring ranking:
2019 - 38.6 - 126th out of 130
2020 - 45.0 - 127th out of 128

These two teams are worse than decent FCS opponents would have been. This just goes to show the ineptitude of Tennessee's offense in the first half. Bowling Green owned time of possession and yardage in the 2nd quarter.

Both UT and Pitt played the Sisters of the Blind in their openers...only UT's was actually competitive for 1 half.
