I agree, but that's not how games are called.

To be fair, the targeting call has nothing to do with the ball carrier keeping his head up or not.

I wonder if one of the punters will get the boot for targeting before it’s over?

You've never played football.

The ball carrier can lead with their helmet also…..

I'm pretty sure the first thing I was taught as a 7 year old was to stick your nose on the football and to never drop it and have both eyes on the ground. And then that very basic rule was reinforced age 8-12, 7th grade, 8th grade, freshman ball and varsity ball. And that was well before "targeting" was a thing.
If you didn't learn it I question whether you played football.

Nonsense. You don’t have to like the targeting rule to acknowledge by the rules, these are targeting plays.
I probably targeted every game playing safety growing up, but the rules have changed.
That said, if you’re as bad as Ole Miss was on d was last year, I don’t think telling your guys just to make sure they bring the ball carrier down, targeting or not, is a terrible idea.

Dropping your head is instinct and has been used to tackle for years. It’s going to have to take actual practice to stop doing it. These coaches take their chances with these penalties cause they’d rather not waste valuable practice time on it.

This is also on the coaching. Clean this stuff up in practice. Instead, all Ole Miss has probably heard all summer is that they play soft.

It's bad form. This is what happens when you lower your head. You can't tackle what you can't see. Guys miss tackles all the time because they lower their head and the ballcarrier makes a move.

Good coaches teach proper technique. Someone sure taught Reggie Ragland.

This is as violent a hit as you're gonna see. Textbook form, perfectly legal.

I mean I like OP as a poster but no doubt.

Except homie was standing still, not running full speed and lowering his shoulder into Ragland. If you don't get low, they'll run you over and once you get low at full speed, in the moment, it's damn near impossible to see where you're hitting with your head back.

OR, and hear me out, get rid of the most universally hated rule in the history of football

I can’t even begin to count how many times I was told “See what you hit” by a coach. It’s bad form to make a hit while looking at the ground, not just because it can break your neck, but also it can cause to whiff on the tackle.

Yeah, we’re all aware. When it’s actually coached it’ll stop.
