My guess is that Demas is faster, but he has had a foot injury. I think you will see A&M throw downfield more this year. King isn't afraid to throw deep, and Fisher is encouraging him to do so. Kid won the rail shot challenge at Elite 11, so he has an adequate arm

Jimbo probably knows the writing on the wall as far as the OL goes.

So it wasn't much of a surprise that he picked King who can scramble and make throws out of the pocket, try to keep the play alive as much as he can... because lord knows he might be scrambling around just to not get hit by opposing DL or blitzers.

I'm thinking the ceiling is higher than Mond's but getting there is going to take some doing, take some time. Hopefully that OL gels enough by the time they have to face Alabama, which is earlier in the season.

As stated King is a coach's kid with ridiculous speed, Achane is the only one faster on the team. Was likely the top DT QB after his Jr year in HS when he had insane numbers passing and running and led Longview to a 6A State Title. Had a bit of a disappointing Sr year as they lost almost all the talent around him and he tried to press and threw more pics.

He has been exactly what you would expect as a guy behind Mond last year. Very studious and hard working and waiting for his shot. He played a tiny bit last year and had a drive going against Bama after the game was out of hand but threw a pic so hard to take much about that either way.

He likes to take shots downfield and is more aggressive than Mond for sure, thus he will make plays but he will make more mistakes. Really glad A&M doesn't have any tough games right off the bat to give him some time to adjust. The key for him will be finding the balance of working within the offense and the talent around him while still making plays and not taking too many risks. Also nice to have a more mobile QB considering A&M looks like it will have a very talented but young OL.

Expect to see some long TD runs and more shots down the field from him. Also expect to see more int's and mistakes. If he can limit the latter his potential is unlimited.

The backup Calzada is more Pro Style with a cannon arm and decent mobility but not a guy that can do the things Haynes can with his feet.

Watch his highlights from high school. Kid definitely has a little Johnny in him with his style of play. He will be more structured, but .... hmmm. Definitely likes to go downfield with the football if he can. Will be good with consistent reps

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. The line will be much more talented. By the end of the year, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were better than 2020.

Yea, but I wonder how much "creativity" in the pocket Jimbo will allow from his mobile QB. Jimbo runs a pro style offense and maybe tends to beat/scream the mobility and creativity out of the more scrambling type QBs... so that may negate some of the very reasons King was chosen over Calzada. Jimbo would probably go nuts if he had to be coaching Manziel! lol

As far as deep ball-- let's hope Chapman is healthy and ready to go and in mid-season form, because I'm not sure Demas and Hez will be healthy. Need at least one or two consistent deep ball threats to keep the D honest.

He will be more structured than Manziel, unless the play breaks down. No doubt about that

Give us the rundown on this kid. More of a pocket guy or scrambler? Early ceiling comparison?

He's very, very fast. Like, can almost run with Devon Achane kind of fast. He's developed a reputation as a risk taker, so I expect our turnovers to increase. His arm is solid, but not spectacular. He is accurate, but not god star accurate. He's gained a reputation as being very, very smart.

He was like 29-1 as a high school starter, piling up insane stats and winning state as a junior. His team lost a lot between his junior and senior year, and he was injured, and his stats suffered greatly. But he still went like 11-1. His Dad was the head coach of his high school team, so he's a football lifer already.

I really don't know who to compare him to.

stars and rankings wise, they're better already. But as we know, OL is one group that needs time to play together, to have game experience, before they can play up to their potential or better.
So, they may indeed be better than the 2020 unit by the end of the year-- but that's the salient point, right? Will that cost us some games? I hope not!

looking fwd to "the mountain" and Featheree and others showing up and establishing themselves as legit right away-- but until that happens, I'm a skeptic.

Can run but has problems with turnovers. Sounds like Kellen Mond when he plays BAMA. See you guys in October.

Fair.

We really need them to gel by Oct 9th.

I think the fact true freshman are coming in and beating out guys who were expected to be starters can be taken 3 ways. 1. The expected guys were as good as we though. 2. The incoming freshman are much better than we though. 3. Somewhere in the middle. I lean towards 3. I think the biggest risk was finding a second tackle. Johnson is supposed to be that guy, but Fatheree is supposedly beating him out. This somewhat worried me. Wait and see for sure. Matthew’s is more due to injury but the high praise the Mountain is getting makes me less worried here. He’s physically ready for the task. It’s all about the mental side now. The center is asked to do a ton.

Fatheree is the biggest OL A&M has ever had. He's Bryant McKinney size already.

Good for Haynes. I also really like Calzada for his strong arm. He can make all the throws.

King is just a faster runner and more athletic in the open field.

He looks comparable to Bo Nix to me. All the good and bad you can think of in that comparison. Athletic. A little inaccurate. Pushes the ball to try to make plays and makes some boneheaded mistakes. Moxie. Grit.

He is probably a little faster straight line speed than Nix, I will reserve judgement though because Nix has shown to be slippery. Nix is more put together/mature at this point than King.

I think we have a better team around Haynes, but hard to say with Aubruns new offense how Nix will perform, if he was ruined by Malzahn.

Gives us the best chance for success. I think the upside of his mobility and willingness to challenge downfield throwing the ball will open up the offense over what we saw from Mond.

My thoughts exactly.

There's going to be a lot of defenses who make him their queen.

I don't understand why that worries you. We already know that Johnson is an SEC starting OT, and one with a lot of experience. The fact that Fatheree might be already beating him out should make you feel pretty pumped about Fatheree.

Jimbo has beeb consistently effusive in his praise for the OL. We know that Green and Layden are awesome. Aki has been around and is getting off the chart reviews. That just leaves center and one tackle. If Matthews can be healthy, he will be as good or better than Ryan. (He was beating Ryan out last year before he got hurt.) If Matthews can't stay healthy, then that definitely leaves center as our biggest question mark. But Foster is a freak and might end up being all world, for all we know.
