OU
Texas
LSU
They'll probably get there, but they have quite a ways to go.

Texas tailgating is hot garbage. Never been to Norman so can't comment there.

Been to Norman. There is fun to be had, but it's on a much smaller scale for sure.

Bull crap
There are at least 30 crack houses within a three minute walk, lots of partying going on I tell you

Norman is a better football road trip than Austin for sure. But it's not a can't miss experience or anything. It was the best road trip destination in the Big 12, but probably middle of the pack by SEC standards.

In all fairness the one time we tried to go to Ole Miss you had to sprint to your spot in the grove. That’s the opposite of what we wanted to do. Just wanted to chill and have a good time.
You know who has a badass and underrated tailgating scene? Arkansas Baseball.
Seems like the kings are LSU football and State baseball

Which of the LSU tailgate areas would you recommend for thick-skinned visitors who drink a lot and love good food?

You planning on setting up a tailgate or just cruising around?

Your gonna get 2 things on LSUs campus - tiger baited and then the exact same guys are going to open their arms and give you a plate of food and however much you want to drink.
We did it every year. As much as we hate them my favorites to hang out with we’re Bama fans.
For the most part everyone is good people. But we allllll have sidewalk trash but you can spot them from a mile away. The same year Bama had the “they touched my bootyhole” guy
We had probably 15-20 Bama fans come
To our tailgate that we never knew and they all got oysters, gumbo and as much bourbon as they wanted.

I'd start near the Indian Mounds/Greek Theatre and then just stroll through campus.

Been to games & tailgated in Baton Rouge & Austin, both fun times.
LSU was all fun, great atmosphere
The area in Austin we've tailgated at is all under construction, huge area and many city blocks. Was told the new UT Medical Center & US Army Futures Command will both be occupying some that huge area under construction?

Texas tailgating is hot garbage
Back a few years ago, a buddy of mine and a few friends went to the Texas/Ohio St game. This was back in the mid 2000's, I think, maybe 15 years ago or so. They ended up tailgating on one of the city streets a few blocks from the stadium.
While they were tailgating, a guy was walking down the streets scalping tickets. They ended up trading their high corner seats for some low 20 yard line seats or similar and kicked in a couple hundred bucks to boot.
About 20 minutes later, a guy drove up in one of those "bus" style golf cards and told them to be careful, there was a guy out selling and trading fake tickets. Unfortunately, the description of the guy matched. One of them took all the tickets and the guy on the cart drove him up to tthe stadium at one of the will call tickets windows, where they scanned the tickets. Confirmed, the ones they had were indeed fake. The driver took him back to the tailgate and the guys were more than a little bummed out.
The driver of the cart told them... "Tell you what, don't worry about it. I'll get you into the game. Just show up at the same will call window at 6 PM" (or whatever it was, a couple of hours before game time). So they did.
At about 6:05, the guy drove up in his golf cart and said something like "Mabel, these guys are with me and they are headed up to my box. Can you help me out?" The lady at the will call window reached into a drawer and pulled out four tickets and handed them over. The driver walked them over to a gate and said take the elevator up to my box...". Wow. Turns out that the cart driver was some sort of UT mega-booster who had some serious pull.
It got even better. When they got there, there was food laid out and the four of them ate a pregame meal with Darrell Royal, Earl Campbell and about 10 other people in the box. Neither of them were in great shape at the time, but still, talk about going from a bad situation to a great one.

We went when we played up there in 2002. It was fine, and not much different than most SEC towns. We didn't really walk around much though. OU fans were pretty friendly then, but from reports from friends that went, they were complete assholes at the Sugar Bowl in 2013.

But, Texas' is more "culturally diverse", which is an automatic win.

Decent. More on the level of Arkansas or Auburn. Not awful but not great either. Middle of the pack.

Still better than the hump of grass Ole Miss has to offer
