re: Bobby Bowden started head coaching in 1959. From 1959-2020 where does he rank all time.

I'd put Woody Hayes above both of them honestly. He turned OSU into the powerhouse program that both Tressell and Meyer benefitted from. Hayes won the Big 10 9 out of 10 years from 1968-1977 and 5 claimed national titles (3 if you go by API/UPI/Coaches). He also went 10-1 in 1950 at Miami before Miami was a blip on the radar.
And while his time in college football was short-lived, what Pete Carroll did at USC for 9 years was very impressive. 7 straight 11+ win seasons, b2b national titles and very close to b2b2b.
And I'm glad someone else mentioned Bill Snyder. What he did at Kansas State is one of the most impressive jobs in college football history

Yep - and as with Bowden, not just taking a program to incredible new heights, but doing it with consistency. They finished ranked in 10 of 11 seasons from 1993 to 2003. Finished in the top 10 six times from 1995-2002.
Just insane.

all great coaches. Frankly Im ok with Woody and McKay being top 5 and ahead of Bowden.
