quote:
op 4 finishes for each team (AP only):
Alabama - 9 out of past 13 (2008-2020) or 9 out of past 14 if you prefer
FSU - 13 in a row (1987-1999)
2-loss season count:
Alabama - 3 2-loss seasons outside of top 4
FSU - 5 2-loss seasons within top 4
Context is always important.
FSU 13-season stretch:
5 2-loss seasons
8 1-loss seasons
1 undefeated season
Alabama 13-season stretch:
1 3-loss season
4 2-loss seasons
6 1-loss seasons
2 undefeated seasons
More or less identical, except for those 2-loss seasons being outside the top 4 for Alabama and being inside the top 4 for FSU.

14 seasons (1987-2000)
- 2 national titles
- 4 Top 2 finishes
- 14 Top 5 finishes
- 152-19-2 (88.9%)
13 seasons (2008-2020)
- 6 national titles
- 8 Top 2 finishes
- 9 Top 5 finishes
- 163-17 (90.1%)
Considering the league that FSU was in the last half of that run and the league Alabama has been in for their entire run........I'd say the last 13 years for Alabama have been every bit as incredible.
Probably the 2 greatest decade plus runs of consistency in college football history.
FTR i said i agree that Bamas is more impressive, but was just pointing out the differences.
Bowden essentially created what USC and Bama have replicated in past 2 decades and somewhat what LSU was from 03-12. Same thing Howard S and jimmy johnson created at miami.
in fact i would say until lane went to bama, Bama was almost exact replica of what FSU was. Great Wrs and Rbs, mainly good but not great QB play on offense. Then amazing DLine and DBs with some great LBs mixed in throughout the years.
But mainly defined by great RB and DLine.

Yep - I mean what Bowden did is incredible. The most incredible thing, like with Alabama, was the consistency with which they did it.
They were great every single season. There was no fall off no matter who they lost. They just showed up and played the same style of ball every year and won tons of games.
Great man, great coach.
