Spurrier hated LSU because they didn’t offer him the job when he interviewed.
They should have. Archer was a disaster, but the players and Arnsparger wanted him.
This is why you don’t listen to players when hiring a coach.

Not that I recall. That pissed a great many LSU fans off.

I also thought Florida made us wear Purple many years before that.
Can anybody find that out?

I read a really cool article a couple of years ago saying that Spurrier always thought LSU should be better than they were and he had a ton of respect for the school.
I wish I could find it.
He always thought we had the athletes to compete against anyone but at the time we didn’t have the coaching.

Steve’s last game was a loss to LSU

I don't think so but I know Gene Stallings did something similar if LSU was doing it in the early-90s.
1991 Alabama vs. LSU
1992 Alabama vs. LSU (We played them in Baton Rouge in back-to-back years due to conference expansion)
1994 Alabama vs. LSU

Classic Spurrier. Has anyone done this since?
The SEC has since changed their rules. Home team can choose their jersey color for conference games without getting permission from the visiting team.

Coach Steve "I quit" Spurrier.

It’s amazing how good the white LSU jersey uniform combos look and how absolute garbage their other unis look.

State did in 2007 and in 2009
2007
2009
Spurrier did it again at South Carolina in 2015 as they were technically the home team when the game got moved from Columbia after the flood they had
Vandy also wouldn't let LSU wear white at home in 1996 as a F you to Dinardo. When the rule was first changed, the home team needed permission to wear white. LSU wore gold, not purple in that game
Vandy also wanted to wear their alternate grey uniforms agfainst us in 2019 so we had to wear purple instead of white

I realize about the LSU traditions... but IMHO, I think the purple uniforms look better than the white. But that's just me.
I tend to think that LSU's uniforms overall are in the top five in college football history.

Yeah plenty have.
MSU in 2009 I think
Vandy in 2019 (I dont Think it was intentional they wore gray and apparent thats closer to white than black in the eyes of the officials)
