The Grind...............the Grind

I will let a better storyteller than I tell the story of the Grind and the great Landmass Year of 2014.

First, Mississippi is called “The Landmass” because CNN kept referring to the state as “The Landmass between Louisiana and Alabama” during Hurricane Katrina coverage in 2005. Since then, they’re joked about as Ole Mass and Landmass State.

For Ole Miss, they deemed their old mascot, Colonel Reb, to be offensive and held a vote on what to replace him with. A viral suggestion was made to make Admiral Akbar the new mascot which won widespread support among fans and students. However, the Administration wouldn’t allow it and instead used the distance second place choice, a black bear, as the mascot instead. Hence why they’re called the “Admiral Akbars” and the “Rebel Blackbears”, and every game against them is a “trap” game.

For some reason, Mississippi St is always Grinding. They’re on the Grind, and all shite talking is the Grind.
