Yes. He was OC from 79-81.

He is known as the Father of the zone blocking scheme on the OL. He was the OL coach for the Broncos when they won their Super Bowls with Elway.

During the Barfield years, there was a nasty offensive lineman named George Stephenson.

He was tough and played to the echo of the whistle.

Father of former AU DC David Gibbs, recently hired by Gustav as co-DC at UCF.

He wasn't the best OC. He is considered one of the best, if not the very best, OL coaches ever. I have heard Stink praise him many times.

I attended AHS with David and Chuck Gibbs. If you look up Alex Gibbs' OL videos on the internet they are really informative and hilariously profane.

Here's one as an example: Alex Gibbs in the film room RIP.

I graduated with Chuck in '88 and knew David who was several years older than us. David went on and coached for the Broncos for a while. Funny he ends up with CGM.

War Eagle, hope all is well. You may have had my mom as biology / science teacher, Rm#516.

I had Pierce Hodnette for Biology I and II. Very entertaining but also difficult in my feeble efforts. I'm attempting to recall your Mother's last name... I'm sure it'll come to me eventually. I have to say I feel lucky in hindsight to have had so many good teachers at Auburn High School. Execpt for Marvin Brown I seem to recall Crittenden teaching a couple of sections of biology, but he was a dude. Perhaps I'm confusing my subjects.

David Gibbs was a senior when I was a freshman, so I was one year behind you. David was very much like his Dad, and I always thought Chuck to be a nice guy. Chuck coached HS football in AZ for about a decade, then took the LaGrange HS football job and was just recently terminated. LaGrange used to be a great program but that's Callaway and Troup County now. When David Gibbs took the AU DC job he infamously had some unkind words to say about Joe Whitt's coaching ability that escalated into an altercation on the practice field. He moved on after a year at AU with a nudge from Tuberville. He was/is a high-strung fellow by all accounts, but I have no doubt he knows the game of football given his lineage.

(edit) I cheated and broke out the "The Tiger" HS annual. Ailene Williams I had for 9th grade physical science. We watched the Space Shuttle Columbia explode live in that class. That is a horrible memory. I don't think Mrs. Williams taught Biology. Ruth Freeman, Mary Dalrymple and Clara Clothiaux I never had as my teachers. Dr. Clothiaux taught Physics, so it has to be either Mrs. Freeman or Mrs. Dalrymple I'm guessing. Suffice it to say I was an academic underachiever in HS and probably not remembered fondly academically. I had to pull off a minor miracle to get accepted into AU, and this was back in the "Ole Miss" acceptance rate days. Cheers from a fellow baby Tiger!

(edit II) Duh. I'm not the most perceptive at times but your screen name says alot. I hope your Mom is well amigo!
