A couple of interesting notes. But as someone else stated, I’d take it all with a grain of salt considering the Aubie insiders have a poor track record.

- Greene was hired by Leath and that arrangement worked for both Leath and Greene because Leath liked to be involved with athletics and Greene only had 3 years under his belt at Buffalo. Leath is fired. Enter Gogue who didn’t hire Greene and the dynamic shifts where Gogue doesn’t want direct involvement with athletics. Greene continues the budget cuts directed to him by Leath, in PM estimation, because nobody told him otherwise, especially as Covid enters the picture and finances are more uncertain

- Olympic sport coaches put pressure on Gogue to get the AD to push more money their way. They organize and voice their concerns to Gogue after the athletics year’s end. Gogue, still unwilling to get directly involved, directs Burgess to step in and work with Greene in managing the department through the post budget-cut phase.

The other note that I found more interesting is that Greene wasn’t on board with firing Gus. Allegedly, Gogue stops an effort to name Steele HC and gives Greene the authority to run the search and ultimately signed off on Harsin’s hire.

All of this seems impossible to know with accuracy but that’s his article in summary

There seems to be a little plausibility in that scenario though.

My guess on Greene wanting to keep Gus, if that is true, is to save money on the buyout since he was/is in saving mode.

Looks credible enough. Only thing I find odd is Leath wanting the recognition when sports are winning but slashing the budgets of each sport by 10 percent. Little counterintuitive on his part if he wanted to be the hero.

I think the talk we heard when all this was coming down during the search, and who was at play, definitely fits this scenario of Greene wanting to keep Gus a little longer bc of the money. It fits too much his fiscal mind we were seeing.

And it makes sense that not just the Olympic programs complaining but also basketball and baseball adding to it with their issues on travel and cost cuts affecting them.

I can see Leath thinking that even as our sports were thriving fairly well in 2018-2019, he probably didn't think a 10% was going to be that big of a deal.

The overall issues in the AD don't seem monumental now, BUT 2 points to think about: 1. When a President brings in someone to mediate within Greene's domain, that still will not sit well with Greene. 2. Once Gogue is gone, and a new President is brought in, if Greene hasn't left by then he better have shown success in his athletic programs.

A lot of people are acting like a 10% budget cut is forcing these coaches / programs onto the streets. It's like everyone forgot about the years of complaining during the Jacobs era on how bloated the AD was and how we should cut the stupid expenses.

From my understanding, Greene basically told programs "cut 10% or justify why you can't/it impacts winning." I think he even gave an example paraphrasing as "if we need to impress key recruits, that's a good reason"

I don't think it is unreasonable that the AD at some point decides "Hey maybe we should rethink our budget to reallocate $ towards things that help win."
