The 12 team CFP is being pushed because college football desperately needs parity. Even if it means the same teams win it, a larger playoff could cause some upsets to happen and that is where people are more willing to watch.

No doubt that's a part of it, but how likely is "could?"

It doesn't seem to happen very often in the FCS with 24 teams, but I guess more eyeballs regardless?

Parity is when talent and coaching is on the same level. What you describe is a 16th seed sending a 1 seed home. Could happen, but that has nothing to do with parity.
