I think Woody had his man 99% locked up in Sully, but either couldn't convince everyone involved or missed the scandal when doing due diligence or Sully got cold feet. That is the type of big-time splash hire he's known for.

I actually agree with this. Since there was a report that our board didn’t approve, I think it’s more likely Woodward missed something than Sully getting cold feet.

It really wouldn't surprise me if LSU finally backed off Sully again and then he got tired of it too and just said "frick it I'll stay where I'm at." It's very possible that everyone was right the whole time and just got info from different sources.
