No, concerning recruiting:

You’re right. We’re in line for a subpar class. It’ll be fine I guess. Probably 20ish with a handful of guys we’re excited about. But it’s another year that we’re widening the gap between us and our rivals.

It's the situation we're in right now. Harsin came in behind and is going to have to catch up to succeed. We all know that.

That's exactly what I've been saying. I'm not willing to dump 2-3 recruiting cycles for a slightly better scheme and/or development. I'll go along to get along for now but be warned seasons 23, 24, and 25 aren't looking good. And yes I agree we aren't at some horribly low point but 2-3 players can make a huge difference if we don't get those 2-3 we are in a world of hurt. So maybe the portal can help close the gap we are starting to get in.

Do they keep stats on “player development?”

Help me understand the potential of the stars.
Is this even close.

I assume a 5 star is at minimum a 2 year starter, all conference, and drafted.
At max, a first round draft choice after 3 years, and an all American. So if the don’t become a starter, the projection was wrong or the development did not happen.

A 4 star should contribute early and develop into a full s time starter, and be drafted in top 100 players. At minimum, 4 stars should make a noticeable contribution as a starter or a specialist.

A 3 star would typically redshirt or play special teams, provide depth. If the get drafted, that is good player development. The number of 3 stars drafted from your program might reflect good coaching.

Who compiles such stats?

Sadly, every coach has hyped guys who don’t do much.

Meanwhile, Dontarroius Thomas comes in as low rated player. Karl’s Dansby was a late addition.

Can Harsin find those guys that develop beyond their projections?
It will take time to see. I know he needs to sign some 4 and 5 star talent, but the key to success will be finding the guys who may be playing out of position or are under the radar because they have not spent their entire life playing football and 7 on 7 and going to every camp in the world.

I’m looking forward to game 1. I want to see how organized we are. I want to see recruits on campus. War Eagle!
