Damn, so they were in such a bad position they had to hire a mid major coach who wasn't doing well, overpay him, AND give him a super long arse contract because their reputation with coaches is currently a blown out arse hole.

That’s a loooong time to give an unproven head coach.
UT can rat him out as cheater in 3 or 4 years and toss him to the curb without paying him a dime on the rest of that contract

They also paid 6 m in buyouts combined for UCF's AD and HC

Not sure this is accurate. I think our AD legitimately thinks this guy is a good coach, lol. He was like his 2nd or 3rd option when he should’ve really been his 15th option.

I think my favorite part of the press conference was when our AD said our current players told him they were looking for a offensive focused, energetic coach that oozed swagger (basically Kiffin) - and he knew then Josh Heupel fit the bill.
Guy is as introverted as they come and swagger would be the last word I would use to describe him.

4 mil a year for him wow. Incredible.

Wow, and the first couple of years might be without playing because of the death penalty.
Heupel finna eat.

Holy shite...I saw elsewhere they are paying another $6mil to buy out white and heupel. Plus who knows what the hell will happen with the Pruitt lawsuit. This is just hilarious.
And they paid a shitload of money for a firm to dig up enough dirt to fire Pruitt.
Sounds like the Haslams have the rebate scams up and running again.

Is Haslem super rich?
I am curious how happy UT fans are with White right now. He was hailed as a conquering hero last week, and it turns out hey hired the guy he was working with, so you know that was already decided before he took the job. Is he still a conquering hero?

Just don't get it. Universities would rather spend millions on the back end of these 4 million dollar contracts when things go south than spend a few extra million on the front end and hire the right guy. I would have thrown 7 million at Franklin with no buyout clause on his end. The cost of finally getting what you want and finally digging out of this perpetual purgatory of mediocrity, much less, improving morale and getting the program going for once this decade.
The difference in money on the front end will easily be made up by happy fans, marketing folks, beer sellers, student attendance numbers, national recognition, etc.
These universities spend their money like the fool who built the mansion by the lake and filled the rooms with furniture from Walmart.

The two primary targets were James Franklin and Tony Elliot.
Franklin asked for the world and negotiations fell back to Tony Elliot.
After Elliot fell through White went with familiarity and comfort.
It's typical UT, there's nothing surprising about anything that has gone on.

They have basically unlimited resources, much like govt, so common sense spending never is a consideration to be concerned about.

Heupel also has a Gus Malzahn level buyout, 100% until 2023, then 75% for 2 years, then down to 50% but the buyout % gets pushed back if hit with big sanctions (2 year bowl ban or 8 scholarships lost). Not sure how he will be as a coach but Heupel has a great agent.

I can think of some University hierarchy that needs to watch the "60-minutes" segment where the Chancellor of the University of Alabama, Dr. Witt, called Nick Saban, "the best financial investment this university has ever made. We have made an investment that's been returned many-fold."
Cheap people do cheap things. And, ironically, often the cheapest people have the most money.

Josh Heupel contract: 6 years, 4 mill/year, 24 mill, 7th year option if certain sanctions
So three years of alimony, right?
