As a retired Marine I don't have a problem with it. I would not be in favor of the government paying for surgeries and treatments. That shite is elective and should stay that way. Otherwise you have all kinds of freaks joining for the wrong reasons.

Generally speaking you want to keep the mentally ill out of the military. Also, you can't have the taxpayer footing the bill for extensive elective surgeries that put the person out of commission visa vis deployments for up to years at a time. The real question is, why would anyone think letting them in is a good idea? Does it make the armed forces stronger or increase readiness?
