Different Opinion - Big Kat and Newkirk

I hope we talk Newkirk into staying. Newkirk and Trusedale would make excellent 0-technique/NG in a 3-4 system. Both are athletic for their size, carry a bunch of weight and can occupy two blockers. Average 3-technique players but potentially good-to-great 0-technique players.
Big Kat is a man without a position in Mason's defense, IMO. So I wish him well.

It would have been much more cogent to write your post in the other thread.

Touche. I hope you'll spare me the thirty lashes for occupying so much bandwidth.
My point still stands. I hope we can keep Newkirk. Big Kat would be best served moving on.

One thing is certain: Both lines will need to be rebuilt.
Recruiting, development, strength and conditioning, and scheme will all be involved.
I think Pappoe and McClain will both be better outside.
We’ve got to recruit better on the line of scrimmage.
We’ve got to develop players better at the line of scrimmage.
Even though the offenses are more wide open, blocking is the key to passing game or running game.

When is the last time Auburn ran a true 3-4 defense?
Been a bit

Possibly. I just dont remember any other time. Other than running it a few times here and there.
I have never liked that defense for some reason. Im much more of a fan of the 4-3

Hell no. Senator Can't name the 3 branches of government was a 4-3 all the way back to Miami. We were not changing that. That 4-3 with the speed at Lber is what shut down Tebow twice.

I’m not a big fan of it either. We did run it last year against LSU. With Derick Brown and Davidson it can be quite effective

Hell that wasn't even a 3-4. More of a 3-3-5 or a 2-3-6.

Has to be Oliver, but he showed a ton of different looks. Its been interesting for me to read stuff on the 3-4 because not many programs run it. Aranda does, obviously. AU may struggle in year one of the transition.

Getting Newkirk back definitely wouldn’t hurt. He’s got potential as a pass rusher and can be disruptive at times. I know the Bigkat int against lsu was on a tipped pass by Newkirk who was being double teamed and still made a play. Newkirk, Banks, Hardy and Hunter are the only ones I see having a chance to generate pressure in a 3-4 as far as lineman. Can’t disagree about Bigkat I’m not sure were he’d fit in Mason scheme.
